I just saw that Julie Hewett is adding some new stuff--a new Cheekie called Destiny that is supposed to be halfway between the tawny Natural and the cool-toned pinky-mauve Jami. Sign me up! Also, her camellia oil lip balm is now organic, and she's adding two lightly tinted versions of it as well, one in pink and one in sheer red. Finally, there are going to be more custom palette options.
So, please, please EDS... |

Destiny looks like a color I could wear easily. Natural and peachie are two of my favs. This looks less neutral than natural and more robust than peachie. |

Cool! That new cheekie will definitely get added to my next EDS order, and I'll report back once I get it. I'm holding off on the camellia oil balm, hoping that the tinted one will be made in stick form later on. Honestly, putting on a tinted balm with my fingers doesn't sound like my idea of fun! |

Just in case you're not on the email list, Julie Hewitt is having 15% off on her website, use code AUTUMN15. You also get a free cheeckie brush with the purchase of any cheeckie. |

I have to agree with Flitcraft that a tinted lip balm product is more desirable in a stick form. I checked out the JH site and the ruby looks interesting - sheer and with a little zip. |

Thanks jom for the code and tip. I really don't need another cheekie brush, but I want one anyway!
I sent an email to the JH site asking whether the tinted balms are going to be made in stick form. Will report any response... |

I'm looking for a cream blush and this may be the ticket. Can someone who's very fair tell me what a good pink would be for me? Would the color "Rosie" work for someone fair? |

All of the Julie Hewett cheekies work with fair complexions, as long as you apply sparingly, except maybe Vampie. I've used Peachie, Jami Bette, and Natural, and I always use just about the lightest shade of foundation in most lines.
The biggest determinant of which shade is best, in my opinion, is your skin undertones. I've got yellow rather than pink undertones, so I look best in warmer tones like Peachie, Bette, and Natural. Bette is the warmest toned one, in my judgment; Peachie and Natural are neutral but leaning warm, and Jami is neutral but leaning cool--it has a slight dusty mauve cast. Rosie is definitely the coolest toned of the lot, again except Vampie which is also pretty cool toned and hard to sheer down on pale skin.
Hope this helps. |

That's a big help, Flitcraft. I really can't tell anything from the posted colors. I'll give either Rosie or Jami a try. Is it necessary to apply it with the brush or can you put it on with your fingers? |

Skippie - the JH site has a free cheekie brush with a purchase of a cheekie right now (it is awesome).
I applied the cheekies with fingers before I got the brush and it worked fine. |

The cheekie brush is terrific--it's about the diameter of a nickel, with very short dense bristles that are quite soft. It's easy to buff a light amount of product and then build to the degree of color you want. But I've also used a skunk brush (those dual fiber black and white ones like the MAC 187) which also work well. And fingers also work fine--when I travel I often just rely on finger-work. If you are going to try one of the cheekies, now is the time to do it while you can get one of the brushes for free. Believe me, you will be glad you did! |

I see Rosie is one that has been frequently mentioned in the JH press coverage as a favorite with the beauty editors but they rarely describe it which isn't very helpful. Thanks for the description, Flitcraft.
Skippie, I'm quite fair/light also and recently started using Peachie instead of Natural from the Mandy palette. I get compliments whenever I wear it. It really perks up my complexion! I am also okay with fingers or the lovely Chubbie Cheekie Brush. BTW, If you find you are thinking of purchasing two cheekies, the JH Cheekie Palette might be one to consider as it has both Rosie and Jami along with Natural and Peachie.
Sis, did Destiny arrive as of yet? Curious minds and all that... |

Thanks for the help. I ordered Rosie from the JH website, but didn't see anything mentioned about the free brush. So, I hope it's included.
Havana, I wish I had taken a look at the Palette before I had ordered. It really does give you a better idea of the colors. I'm scared now - Rosie looks very bright, almost neon. |

I am more on the warm side and had to pass Jami on to my cool toned daughter. My "pink" of choice if from IQ Beauty - (my only pink really).
JH: Natural, Peachie (put on very lightly over the top of Natural) and the Bette color work for me.
Havana my new goods have not arrived yet (I was so hoping they would have made it for the weekend but alas they did not. Tomorrow for certain and I will report in. |

Don't worry, skippie, the color in the pot isn't what you get in applying it. The Peachie, for example, is bright-bright coral pink in the pot, but as applied, it can be a soft, delicate slightly salmon-toned flush. |

Hi flitcraft, does JH camellia oil lip balm helps on dry and cracking lips? Looking for a gd lip conditioner to moisture my lip and prevent cracking.... |

Mixed reports on the camellia oil balm. I love it myself and find it very soothing. (It also makes a dandy cuticle balm. And I use a bit around my nose when I have a cold or allergies are acting up and I've been blowing my nose a lot, too.) I think it probably isn't enough if you have really, really serious chapped lips or in extreme cold conditions. It doesn't contain petroleum products or silicones, so it may not be rich and thick enough for those purposes. |

Hi flitcraft,
Thanks for the info sharing. Looks like this oil balm gd for sensitive nose like myself. Tends to have nose block whenever weather changes. Probably will give it a try though and see the effects. |

Rather than start a new Julie Hewett thread...
Last night I think I created the perfect red lipstick for me. I started with a layer of Gem Noir, a sheer strawberry red color. Then I layered over it Odessa, a warm milky brown-pink shade. Smooshed lips together and blotted. Voila--a perfect deep terra cotta or dusty coral red. Excellent with a light dab of Peachie on the cheeks and IQ Day cream eyeshadow--a shimmery champagne color. Worn with a little black dress and a pearl choker, very elegant. And, being non-matte and creamy, it wasn't too dark or too severe on my nearly 60 year old, pale but warm-toned face. |

Oh Flitcraft - that sounds lovely. Will have to give the lip color a try. I have gem noir and when I first tried it I thought - too red, too strawberry red - now it is my favorite dress up color. I LOVE it. I don't know if it's my age or what but it's become a much more desirable color on me. Very attractive - it's sheer, yet there and clear in tone - not muddy or opaque looking. Brightens your face, makes your teeth look more white and bright.
And now I have Odessa! yes it arrived today and I was eagerly getting to the box of goodies as soon as it arrived ... Had a meeting this afternoon and was able to try a few things out. the maiden voyage.... |

My new JH products arrived today. I ordered Fig eye liner pencil, Mimi lip lush (I had this in one of my palettes and used it up to the very last smidge!) I also got the new cheekie color Destiny, A lip color: Odessa - this is the lipstick that Flit loves, and the FREE cheekie brush AND an unexpected surprise - a sample (nice size BTW) of the rosy lip balm. I was so tickled about this - I almost bought Rosy but like Flitcraft I was hesitant due to the pot Vs stick configuration.
I tried most of the products this afternoon for a meeting I had. The Fig eyeliner pencil is very wearable and good for me as I wanted something out of the realm of my usual dark brown. It applies smoothly, evenly, as good or better than any other I have. The color is dark - blackish but not as stark, which is what I was after. It hints at a graphite/very dark blue appearance - but not at all noticeably blue and it works great with my blue eyes. It is now five hours later and the eye liner is still in place.
Mimi is my favorite gloss and I'm not usually a fan> Ie: I'm NOT a gloss girl. It's a nice, natural look - a little shine/glossy but not gloopy, no sticky, tacky feel as I've found in say MAC gloss products. Nothing earth shattering but if you want a good gloss without a wierd smell or taste this is it.
Destiny was the product I was most worried about - I didn't want to duplicate what I had nor wear it grudgingly just because "I bought it".
My skin tone is neutral tending to warm in tone and it is perfection on me. The color mimics my natural cheek color and enhances it. It is somewhere between Natural (which is a neutral/warm color -although too tan/tawny for me by itself) and probably Jami (Neutral/cool) - which was just a tad too cool for me (too much work to make it work!). I would put Destiny in the neutral category although my first impression was that it leans more toward warm than cool. It is a subtle color in that I didn't have to work with it - I applied with cheekie brush and smoothed it in/out just a bit and it was lovely. For those of you who have Bette - Bette comes off as stronger and warmer than Destiny (In some light it looks brick terracotta to me and it has a shimmery look to it - not overdone but it's there). It has less range. In other words Destiny is wearable to a wider audience and everyday. (I love Bette but it's not my choice to wear everyday) and Desiny has none of the shimmer that Bette has. I've only tried it once so I'll give it a go over the next few days and get back to you all.
The big surprise was the rosy lip balm which I almost bought but seeing as how I ordered Mimi and Odessa (which I haven't tried yet!) I skipped the lip balm. But....the sample arrived so I tried it and wore to my meeting. I really like it. Very wearable. Natural but better. It doesn't look like lipstick - not as thick, not glossy either, just nice color enchancement for the lips.
That's all for now. Will update as I wear everything more. If you have any questions you know I'd love to answer them. |
