This isa normal reaction and you can try alternating days and just use every other day to decrease irritation. After you have used it for a few weeks, your irritation will decrease. It is worth the irritation so I recommend that you stick with it. I have been using it for years and my skin looks great. My dermatologist said that using Retin a every day is so beneficial for the skin. It is the #1 antiaging product that he recommends. Hope this helps.

Chelsea, since you sound like you're using this as a beauty treatment as opposed to acne... I would PERSONALLY go at this slow. There is no reason to become a lizard in the mean time or be in pain. You will get results... Don't forget your sunscreen.

What strength are you using? Cream, Gel, or Micro Gel?

I agree with Claudia, take it slowly. A couple of times a week to start with, and build up. You will still get benefits it will just take a little longer. But at least in the menatime you won't have had all that redness, burning, and peeling.

My derm told me to try it in 20 minute increments if I needed to, and build up slowly.

Is there anyone who doesn't have bad flaking at first? I started level 9 green cream while waiting for my order to arrive from ADC and have had no trouble.

You can buffer your Retin-A as well. I have to otherwise I look like a red lizard. Skin falling off - not a pretty sight. Embarassed

I put on the Retin-A then a 30 minutes or so I put on my moisturizer. It still works fine. You can also mix a pea size of the RA with your moisturizer together on put it on your face. that is what I did for the first month or so. I still peeled but I wasn't red or sore.

As I said before, just alternate days and it won't be so harsh on your skin, once your skin gets used to it, you will not have the redness and peeling. It will still be just as effective, it will just take longer to get through the "skin cycle".

Here is a great link for the use of Retin-A. You may find it helpful.

Chelsea, what strength are you using. You can start with a lower strength and work your way up. They have .025, .05, .01, etc. Also, the Retin-A micro may be less irritating to you. The strange thing is that I can now tolerate .1 Retin A on my face (the real stuff from my doctor), but I seem to get a rash on my neck and arms where I applied the .1 generic cream. I wonder if different parts of my body are more sensitive or if the generic has something in it that makes me break out.

breezy... I recently read (now I can't find it) that the active ingredient is the same in generic... but the carrier cream may not be... You might have issues with that..

Like Oranges, I am currently using Green Cream level 9 and have ordered the Retin A .1 from ADC.

Does anyone know if you can go straight from Green Cream 9 (.1 retinol) to Retin A .1 without irritation?

I know the bases will be different but I wonder if the concentration is similar.

thank you for all the replies, that helps a lot...........I use 0.05% cream, I use it every other day and the odd day I just use emu oil, it seems to be better for me, yes I use a suncreen during the day. I have to stop 4 days before my refirme treatment and restart a week later after my treatment, hopefully I will be use to it in a few months, my eyes looks worst right now, very wrinkle and rough, I do not apply under the eyes but around the bone of the eye. Thanks again for all your help.

Any one using Retin A for a while, and got rid of the wrinkles??

Hi Tonia,
I think that there is a huge difference in 0.1% retinol and 0.1% retin a. I think you are making a very large jump between the two products. Retin a 0.1% is quite strong and I wouldn't be surprised if you do have some irritation. You might think about starting with a0.025% retin a and then move up from there. From my understanding 0.1%is often prescribed for those with acne.

Hmmm, bummer. I've already ordered the .1%. I read on another website that they were similar in strength but wondered if that was right. When I get it, I'll have to be very careful starting out. Maybe I'll skip two days between applications at first. Thank you for the warning.

If that doesn't work, I may dilute it with a base cream like someone else suggested.

Chelsie-please be careful around the eye area! Take a look at all my posts to see what I've been through! - This stuff is very strong and it seems to "migrate" "creep" around surrounding areas - take it from one who knows... I'm still a mess under my eyes. Sad
By now my skin is so used to Retin-A (Micro) I can even put it on 2x a day , red all gone and no more flaking. My skin is great! I have Renova for under my eye area now, haven't tried it yet-Yikes so scared ! ! Have to start out real slow.
Just make sure your face is totally dry about 20-30 min. after you wash it. Keeps it from irritating use a mild soap & always pat dry, don't rub. I started off every Monday wed. & Fri. Good luck

Is it normal for skin to look worse while on Retin A until it starts improving? Can wrinkles, dryness, creepiness look worse when starting out? Does it get better?

Hi all, Howdy59 = (Lisa from New York) wave
I've been using Retin-A Micro For about 7 weeks now. I'm still in the (ugly phase) I believe there are 3 stages to go through. Yes your wrinkles apare to be worse. Mine look like they are actually spreading! (oh brother) Brick wall
I wanna wear sunglasses in my house so my kids aren't scared
It could take up to 6 months to see an improvement or 1 year depending on how fine the wrinkles are and using retin-a properly. But my patience are thinning as much as my skin is.
If your first starting mix w/moisturizer for sure.

Chelsie, you aren't putting the emu oil on top of any Retin A, are you (just checking, because emu oil pushes the products further into your skin)? Just thought I would mention that for the raw spots Aquaphor is great. It really works on the raw spots.

does anyone know of places like ADC and Medmex that will ship to Canada. We seem to be the only country in the world not on the lists. It is soooo frustrating! I just want to get my hands on some retin A without paying prescription prices.

I actually thought ADC shipped to Canada.. I could be wrong though. You can always do a mock order to see if they do if you cant find the info anywhere.

ADC used to ship to Canada. When I went to put in my order the other day I noticed Canada wasn't on their dropdown menu any longer. I emailed them and this is what I received back:

Due to some customs issues, we are unable to deliver the medications in Canada. The only way for us to deliver medications to your country is to ship them to the USA and then ship them from USA to Canada. Since the prices on the ADC site are actual costs, it is not possible to bear the additional shipment costs.

However, you may visitwww.reliablerxpharmacy.com for your requirements. This site is also operated by us but the prices are marginally higher than AllDayChemist. Please however note that you may have to plan in advance as the shipment will go via USA and may take 20-30 days to deliver.

I checked out the reliablexpharmacy site and it looks the same as ADC. The prices are not that much more. My packages always took about 3 to 4 weeks anyway because they were sent to the reliablerxpharmacy so the delivery still will not be a problem.

I hope this helps you.
