I'm thinking about some Diana Yvonne 5%, the 2% PC is just not cutting it. The whole reason I'm using it is for blackheads and it doesn't seem to be doing anything for them at all.
How irritating is this DY? How much of a difference do you see between in and the 2%? |

Not a huge help I havent used alot of the face products from Diana Yvonne. However I had horrible blackheads on my nose and just slightly to my inner cheeks near the nose and have just some many things OCM, BHA'S, AHA'S Retin A, clarisonic ect ect and the only thing that has cleared them up beautifully is Proactiv. I dont use the lotion anywear else on the face but I couldnt beleive the results, however they do obvisiously come back if I stop using for several days. Used this after my niece got great results from breakouts, never ever did I think I would give it a go.

I haven't used Dianna Yvonne either. Paula's BHA's did nothing for my skin...don't know why...but we both have had the same experience there. Tell you what I do...since BHA is BHA (and it works for me better than BP, but I'm sure that's an option), I buy the cheapest thing I can find in the drugstore. Clean & Clear, Neutrogena. If I have a choice of alchohol vs non-alchohol, I choose the products with alchohol. Clinique makes a good alchohol-based spot treatment.
I can hear the clamour now...alchohol is so BAD for you. Not if you want clear skin. I don't use it everywhere...just on the problem areas, and only when I need it.
I remember my mother, the nurse, who used rubbing alchohol on her skin every time she washed her face. She had perfect skin and looked 30 years younger than she was. (I keep wondering what happend to me!) |

Oh, forgot to say...
If you really want to zap a single spot, in the foot section of the drug store, they sell a high% salacylic acid wart remover. All it is is BHA and not much else. It works, but be ever so careful. |

hey vanbergc. I have heard about the callus/corn remover or whatever it is on I think acne.org. People say it zaps cystic acne that is deep. This is what I have but for some reason it's mild cystic acne (weird) and it never scars. I only have some acne scarring and I am the worst picker. My spots can take months to go away.
Isn't that stuff you mentioned like 14% salicylic? eek! I might try though, I have a spot behind my ear that's been there for like 6 weeks now, it's pissing me off. Probably a bad place to try that stuff the first time though...thin skin there.
How long do you leave it on yourself? |

I am an avid user of the PC 2% BHA. I've discovered you have to use a good amount in order to see any difference. By good amount I mean don't use a cotton ball or pad, use your fingers and WET the black head area. This cannot be on again off again; you must be consistent for SEVERAL weeks. Eventually your skin will peel and release the dreaded black head(s). Mine come out no problem by using it this way. Give it a go again. |

suzie q....do you use it more than once a day?
I am using a cotton ball, but reaaaally saturating the skin with a soaked cotton. idk, I just think my oily thick skin is weirdly resistant. I really don't want to be bothered using a product more than twice a day.
I wonder if I did something more drastic to get the plugs out initially - if maybe the 2% wouldn't work better for me then for upkeep. I've had these *#^$ things for years, they have got to just be really hard and stuck.
I'm so aggravated with my skin. |

Your mother looked 30 Years Younger than she was - I didn't know that was possible. |

You're right...it was probably only 20 years. She was amazingly well preserved. Used probably a soap cleanser, Alchohol, and the original Oil of Olay. |

Hey Mex...
If you try the salicylic wart stuff, just dab a tiny bit on once overnight and see how your skin reacts. It takes a day or two to see the peeling. Be careful. |

I have used both PB's BHAs and Diana Yvonne's. I did not like Paula's and I'm sure it had to do with her not adding alcohol to them. They also did nothing for me. They felt like they left a film on my skin - somewhat oily.
Paula's Choice has a higher pH than DY's and it is because of this that the DY ones work better. Paula's BHAs have a pH range of 3.2-3.6 while DY's BHAs (2 or 5%) have a pH of 1.9
A lower pH means the product is much more acidic. The lower pH also means the product can penetrate better. It can also be more irritating. Paula's BHAs are gentle and can be left on longer than the DY BHAs. Its a decision someone has to make which way to go based on what skin type they have (sensitive or not). I would not use such a low pH on very sensitive skin.
I do like the DY BHAs much better and can recommend them. You could also find some salicylic acids in the local drugstores - but they might have other ingredients in them that may make them less effective than the low pH version Diana Yvonne offers. |

mex - to answer your original question. I would try DY's 2% first. The lower pH will make it much more effective than PB's 2%.
Also - HOW you use a BHA or any other acidic product has everything to do with how effective it is. And that has to do with its pH.
A product that is acidic (which means its pH is lower than 7 on a pH scale) will need a wait time after application to work before you use another product on top of it. It also means you need to have your skin be at its pH balance BEFORE you apply an acidic product. The skins own pH is normally between 4.5 to 5.5. If you wash your face with a product with an akaline base (most soaps are akaline - higher than 7 pH), you will need to let your skin rest AFTER washing it about 20-30 minutes to let the pH return to 4.5-5.5. Then you may apply an acidic product. Since it takes skin about 20-30 minutes to return to its pH balance, you also need to let the BHA sit on your skin for that long before applying anything else. If you apply an acidic product on skin that is sitting at a higher pH (like from cleansing with an akaline soap), then the low pH product will not be as effective. The skin's higher pH will instantly raise the pH of the acidic product, making it less effective
HTH and I didn't confuse you. |

Only once per day Mex. I don't like it anymore than you do. To help the removal along, I also used a blackhead remover after a week or so and they came out quite easily. All you're left are the holes which eventually they may diminish over time and I mean really over time. I hope you persevere. |

It's incredible that you must use that much to get results. |

Well its been 3 years Veronica and I sure don't saturate my skin like that now. More like maintenance. Yup, I'm still using it about 3 nights per week just to keep my skin flawless. This is all I use and Elizabeth Grant eye serum and sunscreen during the day. |
