| Being a happy Neutrogena sunscreen user for many years with no problems, I decided to jump on the nonchemical sunscreen bandwagon. I regret it! The collars and necklines of several darker blouses and tee shirts have white stains and I accidentally squirted a blob on my black cotton pants and none of those stains will come out after several washings. I even made a paste of my laundry detergent from Trader Joe's and applied it, scrubbing it with a toothbrush, but the stains remain. I've totally stopped using my Blue Lizard and have gone back to Neutrogena Dry Touch. |

The same thing happened to me, only not with shirts but 3 jackets, 2 of which were leather! I tried everything (including professional cleaning) and eventually had to throw them all out.
Sunscreens containing avobenzone are also notorious for staining white clothing yellow. |

I was thinking about taking my clothes to the cleaners but you've saved me the money.
Why don't they put warnings on the package? I'm bumping this so everyone who uses or is thinking of using a physical sunscreen knows about this problem. |

It's true, if it gets on clothing it's visible but it's avoidable. I'm not dressed when I'm applying sunscreen (and if I am dressed, I'm super careful). I usually let it absorb for a bit before getting dressed. Yes, the sunscreen will rub off on the clothing, but it rubs off on the *inside* of the clothing so it's not a big deal for me. And in my experience it *does* wash off. Maybe it's the type of sunscreen you're using?
But yes, I agree that this could be a factor in choosing sunscreen. |

I use DDF Physical Sunscreen, and it's tinted. I exercise a lot, and all my towels are stained the orange color of the tint. It doesn't come off in the wash. I don't have a problem with the stain getting on my clothes though. That would not make me a happy camper if it does get on nice clothes and won't wash off.
For white clothes, have you soaked it in full strength bleach? |
