Hi Girls,
Inky here. Some of you might recall my whining about a whiplash injury I received a few years back. The accident occcurred when I was 48 and now I am 50 and almost completely recovered. I stretch every day and lift light weights targetted toward building my neck muscles. There has been one cool thing about this all and that is I have noticed that in trying to strengthen my neck, my face gets lifted due to the blood that is forced through my neck. I'm not doing sqauts or power lifts or anything crazy like that-- I simply cruise the internet with my mouse in one hand and a weight in the other (I am up to 8 lb weights now). I don't even necessarily pump my arm with the weight in hand-- I just rest my elbow on the arm of my chair (lazy boy) and keep the weight lifted while I read. I can feel blood rush to my face, head and neck. It's wonderful and I think I am actually building up areas in my head that were 'dormant' or quasi-atrophying previous to the accident.
You might like the effects. Just passing this on. |

LOL can you imagine what you could do with facial exercises using resistance! They do exactly what your describing. I'm having difficulty though understanding how holding a weight in your hand can get the blood rushing to your head? |

My physical therapist explained it to me and I apologize, but I can't re-explain it here. If you try it, you might understand. It has something to do with the opposite force you have to use to lift the weight in this position causes certain muscles to act. |

I have also noticed that, of course, the longer I keep the weighted hand elevated, the better the blood/muscle output. I easily keep the weight lifted for 10 mins or so, put down the weight until my hand/arm is rested, and then do it again. When bored or exhausted with that hand, I switch to the other. |
