I think this can have its own thread. (just like product penetration and stretchmarks have their own)
Is anyone doing this? I'm going to start with the .2mm since I can't do the rest of my face until I'm used to the tretinoin. Should I have bought the narrow one for eyes?
Those of you that do this--does it work well? |

Hi Sandra,
I haven't seen results yet (it's only been 3 months), but I have used the .5mm roller under my eyes as well as the .2mm for product penetration. My eye skin is thin and will get some blood spots with the .5mm. I also have the narrow 3 line roller, and I do think it is helpful to have for the eyes and above the lips. |

I've never heard of the term 'dermarolling', but it sounds like something that I would probably be interested in knowing. Could any of you please care to share this info with me?
Thanks |

Hi Snowie
Here is the DIY recipe index and if you scroll down near the bottom there are several threads all about dermarolling.
There are some long ones so prepare for a good amount of reading!

Breezy-- 3 months and no difference! That makes me sad, I thought it would show a slight improvement after 1 month or so, then gradually less and less wrinkles. POOP! |

I haven't had much difference on my eyes and face, but I have on my stretchmarks. Since it takes collagen a long time to form, 3 to 4 months is about the point when results should start showing. Prior to 3 months, it could be inflammation rather than results. I think I've only done 2 rolls on my eyes and face. I'm starting off slow with a .5mm on my eyes because my skin is so thin (so I may not be aggressive enough). I plan to work up to a 1mm, but I'm afraid of hitting a vein (like I did on my arm). Everyone is different, and I have been cursed with bad genetics when it comes to aging, so don't get discouraged. |

Snowie - there are some on here who are very serious about dermarolling. I just started about two weeks ago or so. I do my undereye area but lightly. I would not use a deep roller there.
Get yourself a .25 roller and use that for product penetration. This would also be user friendly in the under eye area used lightly. I think that is a good starting point and one you would feel comfortable with. |

I did my eye area for the first time last night with the .2mm
I didn't even press. It hurt a bit more than I thought it would, and I have a high threshold for pain. But my eyelids are sensitive and dry for the first time in my life this winter...so maybe that's why. I applied Infadolan right after.
One of my eyes puffed out a rather big hive looking thing in the crows feet area. My eye area was super sensitive that night and the next day. I didn't wear any eye makeup. I think I'll wait a week and try again. |

Thank-you for the tips Sister Sweet I will be very cautious. |

I'm not sure if I should continue this. I did it 3 times and have gotten milia! Probably from the Infadolan, it is a thick ointment. So far no difference in my eyelids except that!
I think I'm going to try to pick out the milia with a single needle. I did this once in my teens, I had one bump, it was easy. |

Has anyone done fine wrinkes under the eyes (not crow's feet)? I'm thinking of getting a 0.5mm three-liner to try there. |

I did my entire eye area. Under eye is mainly my issue too. As far as crows feet go, well I guess I have a crow toe, or claw (one line). So far nothing has improved with the dermarolling, but I have to change the product I'm using to one that won't give me milia. Until then, I won't be doing this. |

I had great success with eliminating crowsfeet and cross-hatching under my eyes, using the 1.0mm 3Line roller. |

bethany - Thanks for your reply. Being new to rolling it's reassuring to know someone's had success with it.
If all goes well with the 0.5mm, I might get a 1.0mm later. That's the minimum thickness to stimulate collagen, right? |

Correct, though you might get by with a .75mm. But I recommend a 1.0mm. (I think 1.5mm is overkill, especially around the eyes)
My view on rolling is a little different that most people's, but after lots of research and trial and error, I personally believe in:
- Pre-treating with Vit A and C for at least a month before doing an intense roll (though I pre-treat for 3 months)
- Rolling VERY intensely and very infrequently (like every 2-3 months, max).
I now roll only once or twice a year and don't use Botox around my eyes at all anymore. |

Do you find your skin has grown thicker after multiple sessions? I'm concerned about using the longer needles because the skin is so thin there, I'm afraid I'll hit a vein. So I thought I could start small and work my way up as my skin gained thickness. |

It doesn't really appear to be any thicker to me.
I have a couple of very visible veins under my eyes, and have definitely hit them while rolling...the bruises take about a week to completely diminish. I do have pretty fair skin, so they might not be as obvious on someone with a darker skin tone. |

Thanks for the warning. I have very fair skin - the veins show right through - so I'll be sure to only roll when I know I won't be in public the next day. |

I actually plan to be in hiding for 3 days when I do a roll, though it's not too bad after 24-48 hours.
Here is a pic 2 or 3 days after one of my rolls...I only get this with a 3Line roller, but keep in mind that blood is a pivotal piece of the wound healing cascade so it's actually a good thing!

Bethany, it's good to know that you can hit a vein under the eye and it will heal. I have been wondering that, as my eyelid skin is so thin, and I get major bloodspots with a 1mm (and some with a .5mm as well). I have hit several veins on my hips using the single needle. The veins healed after a few weeks, but I always worried about what what happen under my eyes - thanks for finally clearing that up:) |

I started rolling in May 2008, but haven't actually rolled since November 2008...it took about 6 months for me to see the collagen kick in and the crowsfeet disappear.
I didn't realize it had been that long since I rolled but I am gearing up to do a roll in June. I am prepping with 3 full months of consistent usage of my topicals so that I can optimize my results.
BTW, I do not roll very often because I believe ongoing inflammation does more harm than good, and even the shortest needles cause me to be red and puffy for 24+ hours (which signifies inflammation). So once or twice a year is more than good enough for me. (But everyone has their own approach, and to each his own...I am not interested in debating which approach is best.)
I do roll VERY intensely to ensure that I kick off the wound healing cascade...the pic below is of me, and this is much closer to a medical roll than how most people roll. It requires some strong numbing cream and at least a full bottle of wine for me to get through the pain. Yes it's hell, but the Botox savings are worth it!
Unfortunately, dermarolling has done nothing for my forehead lines or my neck lines, so I will not be rolling there in the future.
Regarding the pic below...I had already wiped off the blood on my neck and chest once before I took this pic because it made it difficult to see when rolling. This was taken when I was done rolling, and was getting ready to flush out all the little holes by standing in the shower for about 15 mins.

Not for the faint of heart!
I think your theory of rolling infrequently and aggressively may have merit - that way you balance minimizing inflammation and maximizing collagen gain, yes? |
