Hi, this is my first post and thought I might start off by contributing to a popular topic: large pores.

I think many people, myself included, have made the mistake of reacting impulsively and making careless decisions upon discovering enlarged pores on the faces. Lots of ineffective fad products capitalize on this and on the proliferation of misinformation everywhere. The following are what I think are "tried and true" methods of pore reduction, and my justification for this (I've read the rules Very Happy) is that they are from an article written by a doctor Steven Jepson (who operates a medical spa and has written a book on anti-aging) at skincare.myfitnesslibrary .com/shrinkpores.html

1. Using a gentle cleanser
2. Exfoliating with alpha and beta-hydroxy acids
3. Using a clarisonic brush
4. Using Biore Strips
5. Facials, microdermabrasion and chemical peels from an esthetician (not at home)
6. Laser treatments by doctors

Personally I follow points 1, 2 and 4. I'd like to add that you should be skeptical of any cleanser that claims to not dry out the skin or claims that it actually moisturizes the skin; this is a chemical paradox much like products that claim to be a "shampoo-and-conditioner-in-one" and you should always moisturize after cleansing.

Thanks for sharing, my proven method of shrinking pores is Retin A, salicylic wash and niacinamide.

Works better than microdermabrasion and professional chemical peels in my experience.

I still have the darn pores, but they are much smaller and can be concealed easily with just a bit of makeup.

I find it hard to believe a dr would recommend Bore Pore Strips.

I think its well known that you cant change pore size. But yes you can improve their appearance by keeping them clean.

Yes, I am also sceptical about the pore strips. They can weaken the walls of pores causing them to sag more with long term usage.

For some reason those Bore strips don't work for me. I think it depends on how oily your skin in. This info is helpful though.

I found with the combination of enzyme scrubs, AHA/BHA or retinolA, and Clarisonic brush made a huge difference on my pores. On some parts of my face, it looks more flawless.

Ditto on the biore pore strips - awful things.

I would not take advice from a doctor who recommends Biore pore strips! They are a big no-no and actually enlarge your pores.

Here's my tip: after washing your face with lukewarm water splash cold water on your skin to close the pores. This works over the long haul and is a safe and gentle solution that should be in everyone's skincare arsenal.

Agree I would add if using a toner make it a gentle one and store it in the fridge a cold toner also helps close the pores.

I had a debate with someone on another board who said this doesn't work, pores can not change size at all, and the whole notion was made up as a marketing ploy. I didn't believe her.

It's probably a temporary constricting effect from the cooler water. Not really making them smaller

i would add using a retinoid to that list. i would be careful when using biore strips and a AHA/BHA and retinoid product. those products make the skin thinner and the biore strip will then damage the skin further. i do use biore strips, very infrequently, and only when i have gotten lazy with my retin-a routine. i definitely can see how frequently use of biore strips can cause skin damage, but i do like using them once in a blue moon. it is quite satisfying Very Happy

I used to have large pores and dark pigmentation on my skin which made me looked old. Then went to consult a doctor and she recommended Obagi products which I've tried and have been using for over 5 years. My pores become less prominent. I think maybe it is because the foaming gel with aloe vera for cleansing the skin helps made my pores smaller. I think you should try this. EDS sells Obagi and it won't break your bank account. I am a satisfied customer of EDS and even referred this website to all my friends. It is great that you found this website. The service is excellent, and can not compare with other websites.

If you all oppose to the pore strips, then what would you suggest doing about the clogged pores typically found around the nose area.

Don't the pore strips remove the content inside those pores?

No they don't, they just remove whats closest to the surface. They dont actually clean out the pores.

BHA is good for keeping pores clean.
