Is that normal...or atleast Okay ? I do have a couple tiny flaky ( well looks more of a slight dry skin look than peelies) on my chin but not anywhere else. I am following what I was told and just using the blender and tretinoin gel (0.04%)every other night not every night , could it just be my skin is taking longer to peel because im only doing it every other night ? I did also have a microdermabrasion right before I started Obagi.

I'm just wondering if this is normal for some or atleast Okay. I mean I am hoping for great results and I can see my freckles getting lighter....just no peeling.

Is it still working?

Thanks Smile

I'm sure it's working, Tia. Give it more time and you're more than likely to peel. It does vary from person to person, however. Some people peel quite a bit while others may only experience a few "flakies."

Also, since you're using the Blender/tret every other night that could slow you down somewhat. Are you using all of the other products on a daily basis?

All in all, if you're already seeing your freckles fading, I'd say you're making a great deal of progress in only 7 days!! Smile

Tia2010, you are not alone Smile I'm on day 6, apply Retin A 0.05% every day and still no flaking or redness, none of those horror symptoms.

Tia, 2010, you may not get much at all in the way of peeling due to using the lowest strength microgel. And, the microgel is time released to help Stop some of the side effects typically seen with RA. If you don't peel, it doesn't mean anything. Some people do not peel, but the system is still working.

Russiansunshine, make sure you are using the Correct amounts of the products and rubbing them in really well and then wait a few more weeks. I have a feeling you will start getting the flakies sooner than later!

Thanks all Smile

Kims...yes, I'm using all the other products regularly. My derm wanted me to start slow since I haven't used any retin A products and I guess she wanted to avoid a shock to my face Shock Yeah , I was excited to see my freckling start to fade. They weren't very dark to begin with but they do look lighter ( or maybe I'm just hopefull and seeing what I want Rolling Eyes ...but they do seem lighter)

Russiansunshine...It's good to knowe I'm not alone !I do still have redness ( lots at times) but no peelies....Hey I won't complain if I don't peel as long as it works ! Laughing

Thanks Rileygirl....I thought the gel was on the low side as far as strenght, but I had no idea it was timed released to help with symptoms usually seen with retinols. Does the gel still do the same thing as regular retinol , just easier to the skin than regular retinol?

I will just take it as it comes. I'm just glad to know I wasn't doing something to negate the results. I kept waiting for the horror peels I read about and was starting to wonder if I had missed something

thanks again all.

Rileygirl, how would 1/2 a gram of Blender look like? 1 centimiter?

1/2 gram is about 1 inch, and 1 gram is about 2 inches. It is a LOT of product and you have to rub and rub and rub to get it into your skin. This is the correct way to use the products the massaging in of the products is part of the whole thing. If you go back and check the old ZO Skin Health thread there was a poster called FYIguy and he explained a little bit of that. It was a long thread, so it may be a pain to dig for.

you must have patience using Obagi. It is not over-night to get results that you want. But if you use the retin-A and blender every night (pea size only), then you will have more flaking.
Don't forget to use a sunscreeen before going out the house. You will see results in 3 months more or less. Keep us posted Smile

Patience never was my virtue Smile but I am trying. Very Happy

I know it will take a while to see change , especially using a lower dose retin-A and only doing it every other night , but I guess I just really wanted to see some peeling as reassurance that the good things were starting to happen for me. But , I took a breath and decided I will give it time to do what it needs to do even if it means waiting patiently Sad ( or atleast trying too Smile )

1/2 gram is about 1 inch, and 1 gram is about 2 inches.

Translating those measurements to metric:

1 gram is about 5 centimeters (2 inches) and 1/2 gram would be about 2-1/2 centimeters of product.

From Obagi site:
Measure 1/2 gram of Blender—As directed by your physician, apply Blender and Tretinoin evenly to your entire face. Apply around eye area as directed.

Does it mean that Blender and Tretinoin have to be mixed? Or do I first massage Blnder and then apply ( without massaging I guess) Tretinoin?

You mix the Blender and Retin A together, Russiansunshine. That is how they should be used.

What does "Apply around eye area" mean? I wasn't directed by my derm. Can you actually apply this below the brow and between cheek bone and lower lashes?

Yes, you can use all the products under and to the sides of your eyes. You can use the Clear, Blender/RA on your brow bone and eyelids (small amount).

My derm told me not to use them around my eye area because my eyes are so sensitive. They irritate very easily. Any recommendations on a good eye cream to help with wrinkles that doesn't burn/irritate? Or will I just have to suck it up and try the products under my eyes to get good wrinkle free ( as much as possible) results ?

Then definitely follow your derm, Tia2010. My nurse gave instructions as I stated above. Everyone has different skin, so you have to do what is right for your own skin.

Thanks Rileygirl. I will follow her advice but she really didn't give me any regarding an eye cream . She just said use what ever I wanted that didn't irritate my eyes.

Would you ( or anyone) have any ideas of a good one?

Ive tried Philosophy , Meaningful beauty , alot of drug store brands ...and almost all of them make my eyes water excessively and feel red and scratchy.

Any ideas?

When I first started on Obagi I didn't peel much either as I had been using retin A already for a few months prior. Just when I though I was one the lucky ones, after 4 weeks I started to get the flaky skin, reddness & peeling. It was inconsistent. So the same thing may happen to you as well. I guess all our skin reacts differently. The peeling may not have started yet, but it may come on a bit later.

So you mix them together and then massage! Holy moly! Shock I was doing it all wrong! Very Happy

So I mix 2 cm or 1 inch of blender with a pea size of Tretinoin?

RussianSunshine,
You'll be mixing 1 inch of Blender with approximately 2 inches of Retin a -- or follow your derm's instructions if different from Obagi's. This is A LOT of product and it takes a while to rub it all in!

kims, Do I mix it in my hands?

As for the derm, I dont see a derm Rolling Eyes They all say I have perfect skin. They don't even prescribe me the lowest percentage Retin A. I keep telling them that THAT IS EXACTLY WHY I have good skin because I take good care of it.

I'm PEELING.. Very Happy Tonight I can see definite peeling .... The old saying , "be careful what you wish for " comes to mind right about now Rolling Eyes

My hubby looked and me and said...Did you get a sunburn? Laughing Only took a week for him to notice I was redder than usual Rolling Eyes

After reading these post I could see I wasn't using the products correctly. I wasn't rubbing them in very well....when I did .... peelies!

I couldn't believe how much more product there seemed to be when I really tried to rub it in. I didn't change the amount I was using but just by switching how I applied it seemed to make a great deal of difference !

ETA : Oh yeah , any recommendations for good eye creams?

Thanks Smile

Hi, I'm also on my first week using Obagi with very little peeling. Can somebody explain to me the correct way to rub the cream onto my face? Thanks.

I had red and the peelies for the 2nd week then nothing. I am just finishing up my 6th week with no significant difference and no red or peelies. Can anyone tell me where the best and cheapest place to get the clear and tretoin would be? They charge way too much at the derm's office. Thanks!
