I have been treating my skin with glycolics to treat blocked pores and some scarring resulting from a veinwwave treatment, I also have some chicken pox scarring but am concentrating more on the scarring left on my chin by the veinwave.
I saw a dermatologist a couple of years ago who recommended the neostrata products which I have used intermittently and have just started using these again but they seem to make my combination skin more oily?
Recently I enquired at a skin laser clinic regarding the scarring and was recommended either, dermaroller, which I have and have used a couple of times but at salons they are charging £250 a session. The Doctor said I could go down one of three routes, priori products using the Forte range and the peels or fraxel or dermaroller.
It is very confusing as everyone has a range of products I have also been given information on the obagi!
My pores are large and I have blocked pores also from teenage years which I would like to resolve. Anyone had any experience or solution advice gratefully accepted. |

BHA (salicylic acid) is better to treat clogged pores.
What type of scarring of you have from veinwave?
Chicken pox scarring usually require more intense treatment like lasers or dermarolling. |

I think that AHA do work well for scaring (acne and otherwise). Also be sure to sure sunscreen as the sun will make marks darker. Vitamin C can also help even skin tone.
BHA or salylic acid works in the pore. AHA works on the surface. They both work; just differently.
The most effective BHA I have tried is from Paula's Choice and I have tried lots. I recently repurchased another bottle on sale.
I have PC 8% AHA gel. I do have Neostrata's liquid and I prefer the PC. The Neostrata stings while Paula choice does not.
If you can find Alpha Hydroxy products in your area; they have a high rating. I have used them before but they are no longer available in my area (Ontario, Canada) |

Talking about Glycolic and solicylic acids...
I have just started (about two weeks ago) using Priory Advanced AHA Perfection Facial gel, and I noticed that I have already had couple of cystic acne spots in several places on my face. Well, I am not sure how cystic acne is defined but I have like a little (thanks God a little) painful ball under the skin that first doesn't even look inflamed. Then it might dissolve and just leave a dry patch of skin on that spot or if it was closer to the surface, it can show a white inflamed tip eventually. But it is a longer process for the body to heal it, then if would be a regular white head acne. So I think it is cystic, if I am not mistaken.
Anyway, now that you pointed out that AHA works to minimize pores on surface, but doesn't really work inside the blocked pore, I am thinking that might be an answer why I started to have closed inflammations deep side the skin!
If my pore is blocked and AHA tightens it up before it was cleaned, it can have this result... Am I right? |

Oh, the next question...
If this is the case, can we use both BHA and AHA, first to clean the inside the pores and then minimized them?
Does anyone know how to use them correctly then?
For example:
is it BHA in the evening and AHA at night?
or
BHA first and then follow right away with AHA at the 10-15 min interval or so?
And I am also using Retin A now (just added). I know Obagi users practice having Glycolic Acid and RetinA in the same day regiment, but if we add BHA...
WHAT IS THE ORDER that BHA, AHA and RETIN A should be used in (during the same day)? or should they be used on the same day at all? |

Are you normally acne prone? Are you using retin-a cream or gel? How long have you been using retin-a and how long the AHA gel?
If you just started using retin-a then I would not add any additional acids at this time. Its way too much all at once. You skin will need time to adjust to retin-a and adding aha or bha will just add to the irritation.
Priori Advanced AHA Perfection Facial gel contains 15% lactic(aha) and 1% salicylic acid (bha). If you are going to use this product you don't need add another aha or bha.
AHA does not cause acne by closing off a blocked pore. If you feel you are getting breakouts after starting the Priori then you could be having a reaction to one of the ingredients in it. |

I used Reninoids before (about 8 months ago), now I have just added it again 3 days ago. I use Retin A gel 0.5%. I don't have any special irritation. But I have acne prone skin (I suspect hormonal), and I hope all these acids will cure it. Plus the rejuvenating effect is good too.
I decided to use Glycolic Acid in the morning then Vit C and Retin A for the night with emu oil as moisturizer, because in another thread there was the discussion of this regiment. And from what I understood it is highly recommended, used by many and effective as anti- acne and anti-aging routine.
So I decided to try. I first started for a month with Multi Vitamins, then Vit C serum only (both EmergenC), then added Glycolic Acid (Priory gel mentioned) for 2 weeks, now added Retin A 0.5% gel.
I heard that we should be patient because it first goes through "uglies" to become better than ever
Thanks for reminding me that Priory complex has BHA too, I forgot that, but it was actually why I chose it, because it had both...
I hope it will be better soon |

The only thing which is really helping to unclog my pores is Glycolic Acid facial cleansers like Aqua Glycolic .
The moment i stop using it - i get blocked pores.
When my skin is inflamed (as a result of my laziness ) i follow up with salicylic acid toner after cleanser.
My skin is very active and i have to fight it on a daily basis, which i guess is not typical for someone in yearly 40s. |

Thank you all so much for your replies.
GirlieGirl you seem to know about Priory and wondered if you could comment on how this compares to neostrata or is it just the priory products that you have used.
I am not acne prone have combination skin but have found with using the dermaquest 15 glyco cleanser that this made my skin more oily so am using a cleansing balm from boots and use the glyco cleanser intermittently. |

I'm not familiar with either line as I have not use them.
When looking for a cleanser I think its best to choose one that the most gentle yet effective for your skin type. This can be trial and error to find one that works great for you. |
