Hello,
I just tried my first vitamin C Serum....FAIL. It came out very grainy and I applied it to my face as I didn't particularly have to go out in public. Do you think it will do any good?
Is there a DIY crusher, blender so I won't get those little grainy things?
I used 1/4 teaspoon of L-Ascorbic Acid from Whole Foods, then 1/4 of water, and poured a little grape seed oil in there, just a drop the size of a pearl, measured the pH, it was 3.5, and stirred massively in a dark room.
It only made a little tiny bit, so any hints? When I used Mychelle C Serum it was a lot easier and smoother. Any tips? TIA |

Cats,
A couple of things to think about -
did you dissolve the vitamin C and water before you added the oil?
Also, look at the ingredients list on your Vitamin C. If there are any fillers, it will be gritty. Most people use cosmetic grade LAA... much finer and no fillers. Overall, just easier to dissolve.
Hope that helps,

I did dissolve it first. I got NutriBiotic Pharmaceutical Grade Ascorbic Acid Crystalline Powder from whole foods. Other ingredients: None. Do you think this is the right stuff?
Thanks for answering. |

Since there are no other fillers, the only reason it might be grainy is that it is just not as finely ground.
I also bought my LAA from a health food store (no fillers) and it dissolves in cold, distilled water. I just stir every now and again and it takes about 45 minutes to an hour to dissolve.
Good luck! |

You might also want to try Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (more stable form of vitamin C). It is a liquid and is oil soluble. You will not have any gritty particles with that. |

Sorry that your C serum seemed to bomb, one of the tips I followed in another thread. Warm the water first, not hot, but warm. My L-Ascorbic poofed out of existence in 2 seconds of swirling in the beaker.
Re: getting it finer,a little mortar and pestle should do the job if it is quite grainy to start with. |

Thanks for the replies! I just noticed that you waited for 45 minutes for it to dissolve and I waited for 2 seconds. Impatient me. That's what I'll try next. I love this place that you can ask such newby questions and get such detailed answers. I will try that tomorrow morn. THanks. |
