Can anyone clarify what the difference is? And why Dr. Perricone (in his book Wrinkle Cure ) says that Vit C in the form of L-AA causes redness and irritation and does more harm than good when it comes to repairing damaged skin?

There are definitely different schools of thought on this subject. There are a number of Vitamin C derivatives some oil soluble rather that water soluble. The oil soluble aren't ph dependent and tend to be more stable. I personally use both a LAA serum and a THDA in oil.
