Hey guys, im 25 and still dealing with mild to moderate but incredibly persistent acne. Ive tried the lot- honestly.
Im wanting to try and address the hormonal aspect of my skin problems again. I tried the pill 7 years ago (the ones with anti androgenic effects) and while I had some good results with my sikn I also had some awfull effects regarding other areas of my life linked with testosterone, most notably libido etc which unfortunately have been very long lasting. Im only now begining to feel like my old self.
So instead of taking something which is going to effect my whole system im to looking to try a more targeted option and have been trying to look into anti androgens applied topically to the skin, but theres not really alot of information out there.
I was wondering if anyone here mabey had some experience or knows a little more about it?
thanks x |

I have never heard of topical anti-androgens acne. Do you have any brand names? I think if you want to treat it hormonally it would need to effect you entire system. You cant really spot treat hormones.
Have you considered Spironolactone (oral)? It is commonly rx'd for acne. |

On other forums Ive seen people talking about topical spironolactone.
Ive read that Nizoral shampoo has anti androgenic effects and some people use it as face was to good effect.
Ive also come across a skin care system (ctrl clear skin system) which uses a formulation of 5 plant extracts (which they claim has anti andogenic effects) - Advocado pear, Saw palmetto, sesame seed and Moroccan Argan oil. Apparently studies have shown a 49% reduction in oil production. |
