If it's raining, do we still need to wear sunscreens? |

Being in the UK I do not wear sunscreen on rainy, overcast days or even in the winter.
I do wear a high SPF during the summer months or when on holiday. |

Yes I wear sunscreen regardless whether it's sunny, cloudy or rainy. Although I tend to think I need less of it when the sun's not out I know better. |

I'm with Rosebud on this one but not in the UK. I use Vit. C for the antioxidants and find that unless I'm out on a sunny day and going to be exposed, I don't use SS.
It works for me. |

Dermatologists and the Canadian Cancer Society recommend daily use of at least an SPF 15, regardless of the weather or your time outdoors. Why not use a daily moisturizer containing a SPF? A one-step way to ensure you're protected daily!
I am not certain of your skintype, so I will recommend some for both combination, and normal-dry/dry skin.
1. Combination-oily: B Kamins Day Lotion SPF 15, Peter Thomas Roth Max Sheer All Day Moisture Defense Lotion with SPF30, Juice Beauty Sheer Moisturizer SPF 30, Murad Oil-Free Sunblock SPF 15 Sheer Tint, Murad Energizing Pomegranate Moisturizer SPF 15, or Dermalogica Sheer Moisture,
2. Normal-dry/Dry: B Kamins Day Cream SPF 15, Cellex-C Sun Care Face Cream SPF30+, Peter Thomas Roth All Day Moisture Defense Cream with SPF20, Kinerase Cream (N6-forfuryladenine) with SPF15, Murad Essential-C Day Moisture SPF 15, or Exuviance Essential Multi-Defense Day Creme SPF 15. |

Overcast days are the worst for sun damage around here and not wearing sunscreen can lead to a pretty serious burn... Even if you do not burn that does not mean that the damage is not being done.
If there is a reason why you prefer not to wear sunscreen on a daily basis, perhaps you need a lighter sunscreen that you can easily add to your routine so that it is not such a bother.
Take care. |

i agree with giving skin "a break." if i am not leaving the house on a saturday or sunday, and just in my room with the blinds closed and since i use soft yellow light, i am not too worried about uv rays and will skip a sunscreen application.
but i also agree that overcast days are the worst days since uv rays get trapped in by the clouds and don't escape back as easily as regular days. so on rainy days, if i am going out, i would wear sunscreen. but i also do love wearing my sofina and sunkiller, it makes my complexion so nice. |

Skincareaddicted - that is good that you have found a SS that you want to wear each day.

I use every single day sunscreen regardless whether winter, summer, rainy or sunny.
The people around me think I'm silly wearing every day sunscreen ("in winter you wear ss 25"). Obviously I'm outnumbered
This is why I love forums like this. |

Me too ... I have turned it into a routine to apply sunscreen over my skincare products right before I put on makeup. So even on rainy or cloudy days I always wear it! |

ya know? since I was 19, i've worn sunscreen pretty much Every day of my life. I live in Vancouver, a very grey/rainy city, so we don't get a lot of sun.
I'm 27 and look young...but not exceptionally. I am skeptical of wearing sunscreen everyday, because a.what about the ingredients that can be irritating to skin in sunscreens? Even Mineral ones that are natural are so thick/may cause irritation. And b. I have seen Many people who are older who seem to not be botoxed out/lifted, and look Great! Men and women alike, who look good for their age (40+) who i can almost guarantee did not wear sunscreen everyday. in fact, some of the people I have seen who look so good were those who did get a bit of healthy sun, they had a glow; they exercise, and eat right. I went to a naturopath in her 30s who looked 12! and she was of the more natural, holistic approach to health overall.
So, I'm not sure where I stand on this yet! But the skin care companies have ingrained in me a bit of fear that if I don't...I will start looking old and wrinkly. This feels ridiculous to be honest, after all these years! I don't know what to believe anymore.
Anyone have any feedback?? |

Bottom line is that the sun does age your skin. Damage from the sun is cumulative over the years. However life style and genetics play a big role in how you look also.
If your SS is causing irritation then that will contribute to aging of the skin over time also. I know it can be hard to find a SS that works well for you but don't use one thats irritating. |
