I've kinda gotten used to my acne at TTOTM but during these past few months just before my period, my skin gets itchy rashes and reacts to all my usual products.
I've considered seeing the doctors, but I've put that off as I'm out of a job so need to spend less on the "unimportant" stuff.
Is there any methods/products that I can use to lessen the rashes? |

Hi yeahyeah,
It may help to list the products you are using but more importantly can you describe the rash? |

Hi DarkMoon. Thanks for your reply.
At the moment, I am using Curel washing foam, Avene Thermal spray and sometimes Dr Jart moisturiser. I do use Retin-A but have been using it for the past year or so, but as of late, I've stopped using it due to my skin condition. I've even skipped bb cream/foundation, unless I'm going for interviews.
Other than those main 3 things, I've not used anything else, in fear of aggravating my skin.
Well, the rashes are not highly noticeable but if I tilt my head slightly, I can see that there are pinkish red, raised bumps. They itch like mad especially during the evening. The rashes usually disappear near the end of my periods, so it lasts for about a week or so. But it does bother me a great deal.
Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated |

Hi yeahyeah - while it sure sounds aggravating to deal with each month, I don't think the rash is from any products you're using...as to what could help them settle down, when you're more financially at ease perhaps you can get tested for hormone sensitivities?
**I am Not a Doctor**
But since it's timed so in synch with your periods, there's a good chance it could be a developing hypersensitivity to either progesterone or estrogen, levels of which are highest in the body right before menstruation starts each month.
Here are some links I've found that seem to describe what you're experiencing.
"Consultations in dermatology" by By Walter Brown Shelley, E. Dorinda Shelley
"Recurrent Rash Related to Menstrual Cycle" Desiree Lie, MD, MSEd, Medscape Today
"Facial rash/progesterone allergy" OBGYN.net
"Can facial rashes be caused by menstruation?", Yahoo!Answers
"Itchy rash on my face during my period?" Yahoo!Answers
You could try some antihistamines during the rash and see if they help, I have no idea if they could, though. |

Thanks for all the links caboodle! Those rashes seem just like mine
Do you or anyone else have any idea roughly how much hormone sensitivity tests are? |

I know for itching with unknown causes you can get a medication called Attarax? or addarax? and it is an antihistamine for when you are not sure what is causing the itch.
I had a very bad allergic reaction to something 2 years ago...prob some antibiotics and ended up with very red and itchy legs and it looked like a very bad sunburn.
Went to a bunch of doctors who were very stupid and were insisting it was a "circulation problem''.
Finally after waiting a long time to see the allergist specialist- the doctor I saw told me that all my tests were showing I was allergic to something, but they were not sure what.
So one of the medications I had to take was Attarax...it is a prescription thing.
also along with Benadryl.
the cheapest place I found the generic benadryl at is puritans pride.
a bottle of 100 costs $3
here in Canada at the drugstore a bottle of 50 costs around $18.
I am not a medical person, just am writing what was prescribed to me. |

I experience small bumps a week or so before my period. I know I also have allergies. My skin tends to be more sensitive at that time. I use Chlorpheniramine...generic ChlorTrimeton-I didn't spell that right. You can find it at any drugstore. Pretty inexpensive. Wal-Mart is $2.50 for 100 tablets...they don't make me drowsy. |
