I have never tried any type of epilator but I am so tired of shaving and plucking that I am considering an epilator. Please recommend the best epilator on the market that can be used for face and body and one that is the least painful. Thanks!

I think since they all work by pulling the hairs out by the root they would all have some pain factor for someone just starting out.
Using an epilator on short hairs definitely reduces the pain.

I never really found it that painful when I started out. Yes it was uncomfortable but not unbearable by any means.

I've had a few over the years and found them to be comparable. Currently I have a Braun Silk (the blue one). It works fine but the hair on my legs is so fine now I'm having trouble getting them all. I want to get an emjoi.

I also have a braun and just started using it this summer. I followed some advice I think I read on Amazon(?) and shaved before my first epilation. Then I epilated every other day for a couple of weeks. This way there was hardly any pain as the hairs seem to grow back at different rates.

HTH!

I too, have a Braun Silk E'pil Xelle (a few years old) with the Smartlight, which doesn't hurt my legs at all. I find it grabs more hairs if you take the "guard" off.

Underarms though, are another story. This one came with an icepack which definitely helps. As for doing the bikini line with it (I've read some do)..no way! Ice pack or not!

You get a face and body Braun version (the new range is called Expressive, I think), and they had a version when the older Xelle was in the shops.

I can't say how effective the hair heads are (I'm assuming it comes with different heads) but maybe someone will chime in. Lots of reviews on Amazon.

Only yesterday I saw a big, black hair on my chin in a magnifying mirror..quite a new development. Duly plucked out. My nostril hair is also getting slightly longer. So as an old lady I may well be bearded with wild nose hair..if I eventually give up on beautifying myself! Confused

Er, I meant FACE heads.

Here are some on the US site (assuming only because this is a Canadian-based forum): http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=braun+body+epilator

I should also say that epilating seems to be different for everyone. A friend of mine insists she finds doing her legs MUCH too painful and she put it on ebay (I'll have to ask her which model), whereas I zip away quite happily. Underarms brings tears to my eyes, though. Obviously I'm not implying Braun is the best as I've only ever had one model!

It could depend on the brand. I think it's generally agreed the first generation of epilators (which appeared around 1990) were very painful to use. I used to work with a woman who used one and was always moaning about hers.

I'm currently using the Philips Satinelle Epilator - you can read my review here:

http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewtopic.php?tid=37384

I've used the Braun ones in the past but I think the Philips is actually more efficient. It really helps if the skin is completely dry and the hairs are very short.
