I'd like to know if those of you who started over 9-12 months ago are still using it, still pleased with it? What are your results, or lack of results? Any bad experiences? |

I LOVE my dermarollers! I was just commenting on this tonight... I have been dermarolling for almost 2 years, and my wrinkles have diminshed a tremendous amount. I use a 1 mm on the face, and a 1.5 on the eye area. I use it about every 2-3 months.
I have also used a 3mm on my thighs, also with great results.
Of all the gadgets, treatments, and products I've used, the dermaroller is my absolute favorite. |

I have always wondered of the length of needles make any difference? As only the tip of the needles pierce the skin and enters it, whatever the length of the needle, no? any thoughts? |

To dermaroll properly, you apply a fair amount of pressure to the roller, so the needle length does matter. Longer needles = deeper penetration.
My skin is quite resilient, and can take quite a deep rolling without any problems. I also have a high pain tolerance, so deep rolling doesn't really phase me (it does hurt a bit, particularly on the upper lip, for me.)
I don't pretend to be an expert of any kind on this matter -- I did a lot of reading, and then tried different lengths until I found something that worked for my skin. I know the dermaroller threads on here are huge, but they are well worth reading -- tons of good info, and I have the posters here to thank for turning me on to this great technique. |

I should add that I actually did a 3 mm roll on my face once -- that's not really recommended for home use, but doctors do it -- and in my case it was fine. I definitely looked a bit beat up for a couple of days after doing it -- and it did bleed much more than the smaller rollers-- but it healed beautifully.
I'm not advocating that anyone else do this -- just relating my own experience. |

Thank you for the info; my point was just that eg if the needle length is 2mm, the entire 2mm does not enter the skin, same is true for 1mm or any other lengths but may be more of the needle goes in when the needle length is longer....
A question though, how many times a roller can be used before being replaced? Thank you

Daler -- actually, the whole needle does enter the skin... you bear down pretty hard on the roller, if you want to do it right. 1 mm is a pretty tiny needle -- even with a lot of pressure, it isn't going in very far. Even the 3 mm isn't very long all things considered -- but you definitely feel the length difference on the face.
On thighs and such, 3 mm feels like a tickle, and that's assuming a lot of pressure behind the roll... but it leaves me spotted for a few days!
I have gotten about 10-12 rolls from a single roller before it started to feel dull at all. |

What difference have you noticed in the general quality of your body skin (other than for stretchmark and cellulite treatment)?
I have quite a few hyperpigmentation areas from eczema, over exfoliation along the bone on my lower leg and mosquito bites... I was thinking I might dermaroll with vit E oil and apply kojic acid or HQ depending on what I can get my hands on...
Also how long before you saw improvements in your body (skin)?
I've been watching a youtube video diary of this guy dermarolling - he's on his 17th treatment now and his skin looks amazing! I don't think i will do it on my face yet - as I am still breaking out - and don't like the idea of the needle going into pus filled mountains (sorry not a great image). But his videos have motivated me to do something for my legs! |

Aicha
I would also like a link to the youtube.
Definitely DO NOT dermaroll while in an acne breakout! It can actually spread the infection. You can always just roll the clear areas of your skin, though. (Acne is awful... I have fought a major battle to get rid of mine, and it still flares up sometimes.)
I did rolling several times on my thighs/butt/abdomen over a few months, and it really tightened the skin up, which made my cellulite almost disappear. It started gradually, and just got better and better over the course of about a year.
I didn't really notice pigmentation changes, but there wasn't much to go on -- my stretchmarks look better, but they were silvery white to begin with...
I think it helped even out the overall color of my facial skin, though... or at least something did. |

Hi guys,
sure the guy's channel is called RaysDermaroller:
http://www.youtube.com/user/raysdermaroller
I only discovered this channel last week and haven't watched all his vids, just a few - but I would say the improvement between vid 1 to 17 is noticeable so I think there definitely must be some benefits to the pain!
Thanks birdlove for the info. I think I might just use it for product penetration and will look to the huge thread that exists on EDS for that. |

Thanks, Aicha
I know that the big dermaroller thread is a long, long read, so I am happy to answer any questions that I can... I am definitely not an expert, though.. just someone who read the thread and figured out what worked for me.
For product penetration, apparently you can use a really tiny roller... .25 mm You can use that regularly, rather than every few weeks. I never tried the tiny roller myself.
I, personally, roll first, and then apply products, but I know that others roll the products right in. I never felt safe knowing that the products aren't sterile , and with a longer roller, I just feel safer doing it this way.
Good luck with this adventure! |

Wow, Aicha -- I just watched a few of that guy's videos... very inspirational! I do fully believe that his results are genuine, too. Thanks for the link. |
