Hello! I'm a noob. I've been through the C serum posts, but didn't find an answer to this particular question. I have been making simple C serum posted on this forum:
1/4 tsp LAA
1/2 tsp Glycerine
2 TBSP Distrilled H2O
I *hate* how glycerine feels on my face. I have Vitamin E oil, Jojoba, and Bio Oil already in my medicine cabinet, and I am wondering if I could add one of these to my serum either in combination with or in place of the glycerine so that I still have some moisturizing effect, without the tackiness. I know Propylene glycol can be used in place of glycerine, but I really like the idea of using one of the above oils (particularly jojoba, it's my favorite.)
I really appreciate any wisdom you could share. |

You can try reducing the amount of glycerine by half and replacing it distilled water. This would make it less tacky. It is not advisable to mix in the oil as L-ascorbic acid is water-soluble and not oil-soluble. You can apply the oil after the serum (one or two drops warmed up by rubbing in your palms and patted on the skin but wait 15 mins for the L-ascorbic acid to absorb first.
If that amount of glycerine is still not acceptable to you, you can reduce it further or omit it but the serum would become very watery. I think that by the time it dries up and you have patted some oil over it, the tackiness would have reduced. |

I've used aloe gel in place of the glycerin. I don't like the stickiness of glycerin either. Aloe gel is easy to find in most drugstores. Try for one as natural as possible (few/no fillers).
You could skip the glycerin completely and just increase the water by the 1/2teas. This will be very liquidy though.
There is another Vit C recipe that uses jojoba, but it also uses SKB to add as an emulsifier to merge the oil and water. It's a little more complicated and will require some more ingredients.
