I have come to the conclusion that, if possible, it is better to cover up with a hat rather than rely on sunscreen. Of course, sunscreen is important, yet many of the ingredients promote skin aging while blocking the suns rays.
I will still use sunscreen occasionally but prefer a suitable hat/cap to block the sun from my face more often. This brings me to the next problem........!
Many of the 'sun protection' hats look very tacky. They seem to me that they are something that you would only wear at a beach - very bright and colourful to say the least!
I feel it would be helpful if anybody could point me in the direction of caps with wide brims etc, that not only block the sun but make you look trendy too! |

I just bought a hat a few months back from Coolibar. They have a nice selection of hats and I went with the Everyday Hat because it's adjustable (pull string). I also got the fingerless gloves too. I walk my kids to school daily so most times I'm rushing and it's easier to just throw on a hat & gloves than apply sunscreen (I have boys ages 3 & 5). |

I have gotten some great protecting and stylish hats in Berkeley (5-inch brim Audrey-Hepburn-style picture hat), Boston (3-inch brim reversible khaki/blue-flowers that fits in my purse easily), New York (Purty Girl shapeable ribbon hat with 4-inch brim) and Paris (red wool with flower and 2.5-inch brim for winter).
I also love parasols--they look so elegant and old-fashioned. I have a compact lavender one from a Chinese seller on Amazon, and I really want one by Leighton, like the Tiffany one or Chocolate Mint.
And it's okay to use both a hat and a parasol at the same time. Monet painted dozens of elegant ladies doing exactly that! |

I wear a hat so I don't have to fix my hair. I still wear sunscreen though. The problem with a wide brimmed hat is that it catches every breeze and goes flying. Either that or you turn into The Flying Nun. |
