I know I could scour the threads all weekend to get some great ideas, but I don't have that luxury and would love to know if someone could recommend products that will transform highlighted hair that is fine-med but very thick. The condition is that it has become fly away, hay-like, and 'hard'and unbouncy, as opposed to soft and bouncy.
The only time I get a beautiful result is if I use a silicone rich conditioner, but it is very short lived, because it creates a build up, which in turn weighs it down and makes it very coated and heavy. It also prevents any deep conditioning treatments from "taking".
There must be some science to this, because I know my hair can be beautiful and healthy..I've just lost something somewhere.
Thanks a million in advance for any help you can give, and please feel free to pm me too! |

Use a cleansing shampoo and then do some kind of mask.
I like an avocado/honey/olive oil mask. 1 avocado, 1 Tbs honey, 1 Tbs Olive oil. Mash it all up really good and then smear it on. Cover with a cap for about a half hour and then wash out.
Other than that, in general it sounds like your hair is dried out. maybe try conditioner only washes?
ETA. If you'd rather buy something, I really like the Roux leave-in treatments. You can get them at Sally's. |

Hi - I bought a microwave hair-wrap from the Internet -40sec in the microwave heats the embedded gel pouches in the turban which then turns your hair conditioner or mask into a deep conditioning treatment. My staple products are Phyto with Aveda thrown in here and there. I have Yuko straightening once a year (my pic is in the long hair thread if you're interested in that) |

How often do you use this treatment? I've heard about great things about this recipe, but I've always been scared to try it because I'd imagine it's hard to rinse out |

You know your stuff! I was going to suggest something similar. When I want to super condition I use coconut oil on my hair prior to shampooing. I put a plastic cap on for at least an hour then shampoo out. I also TOTALLY believe in conditioner only washes. What a great was to combat fly away hair - I always do that every other shampoo and swear by it.
Good luck to you butterflymom!! |

Re: Avocado Mask, I just started doing that one about a month ago, but I really like it.
I try to do it one deep conditioning treatment a week. Sometimes it's every 2 weeks.
I have fine hair, and it's very damaged from when I was working construction outside.
I love coconut oil on my hair like Gidget. Also I conditioner only wash about once a week and shampoo wash about once a week. That's it. |
