Someone please help me. My skin is very flaky and dry but yet oily. I can gently rub the flakes off my face every night but then by the next day it will build up more. I have rosacea skin that looks blotchy and red all the time. I just dont know what to do. I also have shallow pitted scars that makes my skin look uneven. The dry flaky skin makes the scars look worse. Please someone help me. Im tires of living like this. Im embarrassed and when Im not at work I stay shut up in my house. What is wrong with my skin?

I'm sorry, that must be really rough. Can you tell us about your complete skincare regimen, day and night? Though maybe a dermatologist could help the most.

lilmiss - IM sorry you have to go through this too. It is so tough.

rockhugger - Right now I am using Muac green tea cleanser morning and night. But it really doesnt matter what cleanser I use its always the same outcome. Then I use copper peptide at night but that is irritating me so I will probably stop using it. In the morning I use Estee Lauder Double Wear liquid foundation. I have been to so many derms and none of them help. They dont know why my skin is so flaky. I just dont get it. I just wish I could have normal skin where I didnt have to worry about it. Im so tired of it acting up. Lilmiss is right, It will get better for a day or so and then wham back to the same thing.

I so feel for you. I just posted about IPL intense pulse light treatment that I'm getting for my eyes.

IPL is used for rosacea, and the reason they use it now for eyes is that people started reporting it helped their eyes after they had their skin treated.

Here's a link that talks about IPL. You should be able to get it at your dermatologist office.

secretly - I have had over 30 laser treatments in 10 years and it never helped my rosacea. It did nothing but cause pitted scars. Im too scared to go back for more.

rileygirl - i already tried her zinc soap and omg it was horrible for my rosacea. My skin was a mess.

oh that's horrible! I'm so sorry to hear that. Have you been to integrative doctor to have micro-nutrient testing or anything of that sort?

I really really understand your frustration and despair because I had a disabling illness for over 20 years and jumping through all the hoops and hurdles and getting no where is a hell that you have to experience to understand.

It could be that some nutrient is missing or not being absorbed, or something? I don't know but my nutritional doctor had hideous psoriasis for years until she found the right supplements. Might be worth trying.

Have you tried Paula's Choice? I haven't used her line yet, but I have come across several products that address rosacea

Why don't you go to a dermatologist again? It can take several trys some times to find the right one. I know, I've been there.

What rx products have you tried?

I also have tried everything - have had lasers, done Obagi and the Blue Peels. Along with everything else, I have hyperpigmentation. I'm pretty sure it's because I was always reluctant to use sunscreen on my face due to the oiliness. Now I always make sure to at least put sunscreen on my jawline and cheeks. Don't ever use sunscreen in T Zone because I will be greasy looking in literally 10 to 15 minutes. I got the Clarisonic and it does help to make my face feel cleaner, but if I have a breakout it seems to spread the bacteria and make surrounding areas break out.

My dermatologist has said she would put me on a low dose of Accutane just for the oil, but I am nervous about what the side effects would be of getting on it and ALWAYS having to be on it. Scary.

Hopefully someone will read this and have used a line that has helped.

I do use Paulas Choice 2% BHA liquid and this has helped with acne, not the flakies though.

I think you ought to start with a gentle cleanser, exfoliate and use only spf 15 during the day. Maybe this could help.

That must be so frustrating! Stopping the CP sounds good.

What about climate and lifestyle factors? Is your indoor air humid enough? Do you avoid the usual rosacea triggers, caffeine, alcohol, hot drinks, spicy foods? Any allergies? Hormonal factors? Prescription medications? There must be a good enough derm out there for you, to look at this holistically and figure out what's going on... Or maybe a team like GP-derm-endocrinologist. Do you have a doctor you trust?

Oh, and a product rec: La Roche-Posay Cicaplast, marketed as a post-peel healing ointment, but it got me through the tretinoin flakies. It's oil-free and both anti-microbial (zinc) and collagen-building (madecassoside).

I have dry layer of skin all over my face. I do not think its seborrhei dermatitis. I do think it some kind of eczema. No matter how thick of moisturiser I use, it wont go away. It feels tight and horrible and looks flaky but yet Im oily. It does not look like white flakes though. If i do a lactic peel it looks smooth for one day but then comes back. What is this and what can i do to get rid of it. Please help.

I do have rosacea too

It seems like when I use moisturisers with oils in it or thicker creams that my face gets flaker. I dont know what this is. Its all over my cheeks, nose, chin and forehead. Its not along my hairline though.

What things have you tried lately? Did you stop the CPs?

Yes I stopped the cp and my redness looked better. Then I started using Naturdermx moisturiser and the redness looked so much better but my skin feels like I have a second layer on it. Its all flaky. Almost like shedding flakes that wont flake off if that makes any sense. I dont know whats going on. I can go home and wash my face and rub and i will get dead skin off but it will be there again tomorrow.

I am pregnant too so I dont know whats safe to use or not.

Yikes, that sounds tough. It reminds me of exfoliative cheilitis, which I think I had and which for some people can be extremely hard to deal with. I wonder if you're allergic to a common ingredient or something... What do you think would happen if you tried being super-gentle and minimalist, like just gentle cleanser, no scrubbing or rubbing, and maybe no moisturizer or something simple like maybe a pure oil or pure aloe or glycerin-water mixture?

I just looked at http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/762236-overview (medscape's pages on exfoliative dermatitis). Maybe something there would be helpful? Some of the takeaways are oatmeal baths, antihistamines, etc.

Thanks so much for trying to help me out. I just read through it. I really dont know what it is on my face. I dont have it anywhere else on my body just face.
Last night I decided I was going to try the Noble Zinc Soap by Dr. BaileySkincare. Last time I tried to use it, it irritated me. This time I washed with Biomedic purifying cleanser to get all my makeup off. Then I applied the zinc soap. I started gentle rubbing my skin and you would not believe how much skin rubbed off my face. After I did that I applied deluted Apple cider viniger. My rosacea was really really red after applying the viniger.

This morning it was still pink but a lot of times it is because of the rosacea. I applied the zinc soap again and it seemed ok. Then I was scared to apply moisturiser because didnt know if the flakes would build up again. So I applied Monistat Chaffing gel for my primer and then makeup. You can still see some flakes on my skin once I applied makeup. My face actually looks shiner than ash looking. Ive had this happen before but then it comes back. So Im wondering if I keep using the zinc bar if it will keep it away.

I hope that the zinc bar is safe to use if pregnant. I called bailey skincare and the nurse said to ask obgyn. It is the same zinc thats in head and shoulders. I hope it stays off. Any suggestion how to keep it from coming back. I wonder if my skin just doesnt shed like it should or is it SD?

I had just about exactly what you are describing for a year. I finally went in to a dermatologist. I had to go on antibiotics because a patch on my right side was so irritated it was a borderline infection, and I had to use a prescription cortisone cream just about daily. I know that nobody likes cortisone creams because they thin the skin long term, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Everything cleared up in about three months when I was able to switch to regular moisturizers. Mine turned out to be chronic contact dermatitis which I still have to be careful of today.
