I tried googling it, but a lot of them were just a bit too extreme for me to tell what it actually is. Does anyone have some good pictures of it?

I would say it's unevenly pigmented skin, whether darker, lighter (or even white!), or redder. And the sun erodes collagen too, so sun-damaged skin tends to crumple unattractively, like the crepy cleavages of older women who have routinely exposed their decolletages unprotected.

This has some non-extreme pictures in the slideshow: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/sun-damage/SN00021

That was a great link, Rockhugger! Thanks. I'm very fair-skinned and have sustained a lot of sun damage over the years.

I can't emphasize enough the importance of using sunscreen!

The last link that Queenie provided shows some rather "advanced" photos of skin cancer. I don't know why someone wouldn't get that checked out; it's obviously out of the ordinary.

That being said, I definitely need to make an appointment with a dermatologist to just get my vast assortment of moles/freckles checked out.

What's a little aggravating is that, in my area, you have to have a physician's referral in order to get an appointment with a derm!
