Hi, I haven't been here in awhile because I am smack dab in the middle of packing, having sold my house.

It's amazing how much we accumulate over a lifetime. It doesn't help that the ex-husband basically left it all for me to take care of/wrap up/etc.

Anyway, on a brighter note, the end is in sight!

I had an interesting experience this morning while buying packing supplies at Walmart.

I passed one aisle and noticed this slender blonde woman and it made think how much I am looking forward to resuming my health & exercise program again after the work and stress of this move is behind me.

As I passed the aisle, she turned her head and I about fell on the floor. From behind, I would have guessed her to be in her twenties or thirties - when she turned to face me? I dunno, late sixties, maybe?

Her cheeks were falling down her face, huge age spots and wrinkles and sags everywhere...
and yes, I am a compassionate person and believe in all sorts of beauty inside and out - but I kept thinking - if I had that great body and great thick silky long blonde hair - I would have a face to match. Who knows, maybe she is struggling financially, maybe she doesn't care - we all have priorities and while I would spend any discretionary $ to keep my face youthful - others would rather spend theirs on hobbies, family members, etc.

Perhaps I am just vain, but this is how I feel about the face in the mirror and I am not ashamed to admit it.

For me, I want to be able to recognize myself even as I age - does this make sense to anyone else?

I am deliberately choosing to not buy another home right away. I am putting the extra funds in savings and I am going to travel light for awhile. I am going to stay in the home of a friend who happens to live in a very cool neighborhood of outdoor cafes and live music and art and ethnic eateries. Her house is full of sofas and guitars and a piano and she is a great person.

I am going to walk the streets and paths and join a gym there. I am going to visit my daughter on the weekends and see friends. I am going to stop and smell the roses. I am going to see about a face lift, although I get compliments all the time from people thinking I am 5- 7 years younger, this is something I want to do - lift my cheeks a bit - no more $$ on fillers in the cheeks! LOL.

I am not trying to reclaim my youth. I am just trying to claim me, after years of giving to others, after the past few difficult years.

Thanks for letting me spill it out here, in this safe and friendly place.

BFG

Regarding the walmart woman, many don't have the funds or maybe the inclination?

Regarding your new path, Good for you BF! Do what makes you happy, be good to you, you deserve it!!!

All the best,

DM

Wow that's very... truthfully inspiring! I like how you're so honest about it and that's great! I don't think being vain is bad unless you're deliberately using it to mock people. But yeah, if you want to make yourself feel better, that's great!

Yes, as I mentioned, we each have our own priorities and issues to wrestle with, I wasn't judging her, just amazed at how facial appearance can differ so much from overall appearance.

Thanks for the wishes, they are appreciated!

I didn't think you were judging at all BF, I have had similar experiences and thoughts! That shock when a person you would guess was young turns and you are greeted by a very old looking face!

Nice post Barefootgirl. I'm excited for you! Especially the part about traveling light, moving into a cool neighbourhood... house... things... and people. I hope you keep posting about your day to days and what this whole change does for you - do you have a blog you'd like to share?

And yes, the thing about the woman made me laugh. I remember my mom once saying that she saw a girl from the back with a mane of absolutely beautiful hair and when she turned around my mom almost screamed! She was never one to be critical or unkind (which is perhaps why I remember her saying this so clearly) but the unattractive face really surprised her and not only that, made her sad.

Good luck with your new adventures, BFG! Best wishes for you and this new chapter in your life! Very Happy

Now that you will be traveling light, what are you planning on using on your skin; will your skin care change with this new transition?

Once I get settled in, I plan to resume dermarolling. I also plan to seek out some Ionzyme facial treatments.

And also, research my options for a midface lift and a little tuck under the chin.

My hands are disappointing - whatever works for the face, doesn't seem to help as well on the hands Sad

Anyway, thanks again and I look forward to posting again when I get more time.

Actually, I think a midface lift, an upper bleph and a little chin lipo might make me a new woman LOL
