I've been getting brazilian waxing done for quite sometime now and am now contemplating on getting laser hair removal done. I've never had laser hair removal done before. Does it hurt? I know that places do bikini area, but how common is it to do a brazilian hair removal? I live in Vancouver Canada, any recommendations for a good place?

I haven't gotten pubic hair removed before, but I have gotten it done on my legs and arms. It doesn't hurt, it just gets a bit warm, like touching a hot glass of water

Hi BC Girl,

I got it done about 6 years ago at Vancouver Laser (link above). Took 6 treatments. One of the best things I've ever done! PM me if you want more details.

Arms & legs are less painful then underarms and bikini. But the pain is over with quick, so don't let that stop you. Not having to shave or just having to shave less often is awesome.

And I'm willing to bet that laser is much less painful than waxing Razz

I had a trial for bikini area and legs, armpits as well. It wasn't painful in any of these places. You'r right, oasisjc, especially if you compare it with the waxing or mechanical depilation (HUH )

But I have a medium light (certainly not black) hair color and as much as I would like laser hair removal, I am afraid my money will be just waisted on it. Or maybe there is a laser out there that can work on light hair too?

Please, share your experiences, please...

Don't waste your money. The hair has to be dark and course to attract the laser.

Having done waxing and LHR on my underarms. LHR was more painful, for me anyway. The hair follicle has to get heated up to some thing like 103 degrees to kill it off. How can that not hurt? Although there are cooling attachments on the laser and the pain is brief.

I just started laser hair removal on my bikini area. I got a deal for 6 treatments at the price of 2 for just the bikini line, but with option to upgrade to full bikini.

Im a little bit scared of doing the whole thing because, as much as I love the smooth hairless feel down there, its permanent!!! I like having options...

plus my hair is pretty light, so it will take a lot more than 6 treatments, which will end up costing me alot (not that waxing is cheap either!)

as for pain and efficiency, it depends on the type of laser they use. For me there was no pain, just a warm feeling and a slight pinch, but definitly not painful!!!

I've been told that the hair will come back after pregnancy due to all the hormones.

I have a friend who has had it done. She's noticing a difference but still has more sessions to go.

If you don't think your hair is the right type for laser, you should go see a derm for a consult. If it's not the right type, they will most likely suggest electrolysis, although that method is a bit more painful and I'm not sure if that procedure is available for the pubic region

Its true that hormonal shifts, from anything, can cause the hair to grow/regrow. Its a possibility not a guarantee.

If your hair is light its really not going to respond well and more treatments wont provide better results. The hair has to be dark, the laser is attracted to the pigment. Don't let anyone tell you it works on lighter hair, it just doesn't.

Dont know what type of laser you are having but alot of places are using IPL based machines for LHR. Its a less painful treatment then true laser but its a waste of money as its not effective long term.
