I know a lot of people with sensitive skin, but nothing like my sister, combined with her severe allergy to almost every pollen there is in TX, she's a walking disaster.
Her scalp is very dry and it's been bugging her for the longest time, her Dermatologist told her that it's hereditary and to use Head and Shoulders but that doesn't work for her. Seeing her dandruff all over the place is just icky but I know she can't help it. She's tried Biolage, Aveda and Paul Mitchell... same outcome. |

| Aubrey Organics haircare line has been a Godsend for my itchy and flake-prone scalp. I use calaguala fern shampoo, and leave in treatment. But my favorite product is their blue-green algae hair mask - I got IMMEDIATE results, it's simply fabulous. You can find this line in health food stores or purchase online (I have never seen the hair mask in a store). |

i would suggest that you search out some shampoos that don't contain sodium laureth sulphate or any other detergents. detergents (the ingredient that makes all things foamy) strips away natural oils, leaving things dry + not happy.
although this would only be a superficial solution, and not treat the problem, it might help w. alliviating the problem.
some brands to check out that i can think of right now are dr. hauschka and hammadi.
also, does she wash her hair every day? if yes, she could try cutting down on the number of times she washes her hair each week.
the only downside to this is your sister would have to give up the bubbles, as this shampoos tend to contain ingredients that produce a minimal lather. |

| My husband had a problem with dry, itchy scalp. Kiehl's Lecithin Conditioning Shampoo really seemed to help him. You can check out the Kiehl's website. Kiehl makes some really nice products (healing). |

I know she only wet her hair a few times a week to alleviate the problem.
I will let her know about all the products that you all mentioned here, hopefully, it will help her too.
Thank you all! |

I have an itchy dry scalp and I ordered Dr Haushka shampoo and conditioner yesterday from EDS (v reasonable at about £8 a bottle - I have been paying about £6 for Neutrogena TGel shampoo so not much difference price wise, plus no nasty additives) I'm just waiting for them to arrive so I'll get you know how I get on with them |

Aveda has an oil that I massage into my scalp when I've had that problem. It's called Balancing Infusion for Sensitive Skin and Scalp. The one I have is very old because I haven't used it a lot and not recently at all. Just a thought. |

FYI - you can buy one of these non-sulphate shampoos at your local Walgreens – Paves No Sulfates Allowed Repairing Shine Shampoo. It’s about $5 a bottle. To this shampoo, I would suggest adding a few drops of tea-tree oil to make your own “healthier” (i.e.: non-drying) tea-tree shampoo. Although, as Lamicuz says, when you use a shampoo that doesn’t contain sulphates, you don’t get that thick, rich, satisfying lather – but that DOESN’T mean that your hair isn’t getting clean so you don’t have to shampoo more than once.
One other thing for sis to try: Neutrogena T-Gel or T-Sal shampoo (I think that’s it’s name)...again, good ole’ Walgreens even has a generic version that contains the coal-tar that Lianne mentioned. Here’s the link to the product info: http://www.walgreens.com/store/product.jhtml?id=prod384393&CATID=100865&navAction=push&navCount=0
Also, Nanapost’s rec regarding the Aveda Serum is a good thing to try as well. Back when I used to get my hair styled at an Aveda ‘Concept’ Salon, my stylist used to massage my scalp with that stuff before he’d wash my hair. It feels incredible and it’s also a cool aroma-therapy experience as well.
Your sister’s predictament sounds exactly what my older brother went through back in high school – Denny’s dandruff was so severe that every morning before school he would get up and take the vacumn cleaner wand and use it to suction all of the dandruff flakes from his scalp!! I was just a wee sprog at the time and I thought it was hilarious watching him vacumn his hair – I didn’t understand that having dandruff flakes the size of silver-dollars was a huge detriment to him socially....
Anyway, good luck to your sis -- I hope one of these suggestions helps her find the answer!

Have her give Nizoral shampoo a try (found in places like Walmart). It contains ketoconazole which is a drug that inhibits yeast. Some people have a more severe type of dandruff called seboreic dermatitis that is caused by a reaction to the normal yeast on the scalp. If it doesn't work well enough, there is a stronger Rx version. Hope that helps. |

| A friend of mine has had huge success with her itchy flaky scalp taking several flax oil capsules daily. I wish I could get my husband to take them but he won't swallow pills unless he's really, really sick, even then I have to force him. |

| I've tried Dr. Hauschka's herbal shampoo and conditioner a number of times, and I am less impressed the more I use it. I have a very itchy scalp (although my hair is generally oily) and I can get flakes, and although the Hauschka shampoo is very nice and makes my hair look good, it doesn't do much for my scalp. I stand by my original recommendation of Aubrey's prodcuts, they have REALLY helped me out (and they contain no detergents or artificial ingredients.) |

| I'd have to second taking the flax seed oil for the Omega-3s. I take a daily tablespoon of Carlson's Cod Liver Oil. Nothing has made a bigger difference in my skin/hair health overall. |
