Fellow EDS lovers,
I need help with ingrown hairs.
I am a young male, 22, and suffer from ingrown hairs on the face and sometimes high neck.
I am blond and I have tried all possible options!
I use Tend Skin, I have used Vanish, I exfoliate every day with a salicylic acid cleanser AM/ PM...
I even have had several sessions of Laser Hair Removal on my face and neck (over 1 1/2 years of treatment) and the ingrown hairs still come back! Unfortunately, since I am a natural blond (which I love being) my facial hairs don't take that well to the treatment (which I hate).
Should I even try electrolysis?
Weird observations:
* I know that ingrown hairs have a curl in the hair. I see this when I pluck the hair out (that's how bad it gets!). I have very straight hair. It's very fine and very thick. How in the world do I have "curly" facial hair? We do not have curly hair in the slightest in my family.
* I understand that exfoliation helps remove ingrown hairs. That's what I am doing every day with the BHA cleanser. Is my skin not responding to the treatment?
The ingrowns look like acne and disrupt the texture and look of my skin.
I really need good advice as I have searched and searched for months on this topic, even talked to dermatologists and doctors about this with little to no helpful advice.
I don't like the answers of "grow a beard" or "don't shave that close." My response is, "Well, hello! When you just shave a little and don't remove the hair follicle and still feel stubbly, what's the point of shaving?"
Thanks for the advice! |

Your cleanser really isn't doing anything for you right now. You will pretty much wash off the BHA immediately which can barely have an exfoliating effect on your skin. You would need a moisturizer with BHA or even AHA. Just something that stays on your face for more than 30 seconds. You can also try a physical scrub instead of just a chemical scrub as they are probably better at removing the surface of your skin to prevent ingrowns. Have you looked into the Clarisonic? I heard it helps men with shaving too. As well, there's a shop here in Vancouver called shopmasc and they have a lot of options for shaving for men. I think one of their most well-known lines is called menscience. My friend uses this and they have a spray that helps reduce ingrowns so you can check that out too.
I wouldn't go for electrolysis unless you don't want facial hair at all?
Anyways, hope that helped |
