Suzanne Somers has been saying this for decades now. I think she was a patient of Schwarzbein. She must know this woman.

I just started dieting today so this is motivating. Of course, on this forum, we all know that DeVille looks good (facially) in large part due to natural plastic surgery, fillers, botox and Renova. I wish she'd say who her doctors are.

I've read all Suzanne's hormone books & have never heard her mention eating a pound of butter a week for 15 years to reverse hormonally based aging. Suzanne also rarely discusses Vitamix juicing or the raw milk movement. She started out with Schwarzbein & also says eat only "real food" but for some reason I find Nancy more coherent & on point. She seems more like a real bonafide health advocate to me.

She has had a facelift I'm sure. Still, looks millions times better than younger health enthusisasts, especially blows away those durn vegans. Very Happy

Nancy is my twin sister! And thanks for all the kudos really nice to hear. Healthy, Sexy, Happy is a great book, can't wait for it to be released, it's a labor of love for sure.

I was reading today on Amazon. I enjoy her use of words: ie: factory foods. Did she do a big turn-around in her life? I did not research anything - just read her book reviews etc on Amazon. I love inspiring women who are "older". We all need those good role models.

We had a really good influence in our grandma who was an early real food/Adele Davis advocate. But both of us did things that weren't healthy, like starving to lose weight (most young girls do stupid things). But we both have been on the health road our entire lives and Nancy talks about all of this in both Death by Supermarket and Healthy, Sexy, Happy. The latest edition of DBS just came out, it's really really good. Very Happy

I'm glad you like the website, I'm nursing my wrist because I've been working on it so much, I also designed the cover for HSH.

It would be great if you told me any suggestions for what you'd like to see on her site....thanks!!!! Bad Grin

I just bought DbSupermarket. Now I'm really excited with your praise of the latest edition.

I teach Nutrition and this is a love of mine. I am out of the mainstream of most Nutritionists - I'd say but proud of it.

My Nana had all the Adele Davis books - She was considered somewhat odd in her day too. (my Nana that is). She was a Biology major - college educated when most women were not and loved all things about health and nutrition. I read the story about your grandmother and the slant board and loved it.

Your Nana sounds so neat, that's the Nana I want to be to my granddaughters. I know my grandma was considered odd too with the slant board -- so funny.... and she did kooky seeming things like say she's doctoring herself and swig olive oil then giggle.

That's so interesting that you're a nutritionist, and I love you say you're out of the mainstream. The mainstream sometimes drives me crazy because it's capital driven like everything else.

The first edition of DBS was really really great, this edition is updated with current info so it's even better. And Nancy's writing is really entertaining too.

Where do you work? I'm really interested.

Yes my dad was big on Adele Davis in the 70s. I was raised around it so I've just tended to go with that. My ten years in veganism were a full scale catastrophe. Some of the recent discoveries including and especially Nancy's blog & videos has helped me connect the dots of 20 years of unsolved mysteries.

I thought Adelle Davis died of cancer, which was odd since she claimed her diet prevented cancer. Unless I'm remembering it wrong. I read one of her books when I was in college. I seem to recall reading Diet for a Small Planet as well. Was that one of hers? I had an overweight friend who was forever reading diet and food books in search of the 'magic pill' of weight loss, so when she finished one book, she'd let me read it, even though I was very thin. At that time I was just starting to take vitamins and everyone thought I was nuts!

^^Adelle Davis died of bone cancer at the age of 70. Old age, genetics & hormonal loss likely played a big role. I need to read Let's Eat Right To Keep Fit, my dad was really in to it. In the 80s low fat and anti saturated fats from animal foods took hold. I think a lot of people have made wrong health & diet choices since then simply due to mis & disinformation & confusion. I think the "Small Planet" book was one of the forerunners of vegetarianism.

Now here's a memory - One summer semester in college (early 80s) - I shared a subdivided home with a variety of roommates. I now realize the woman living upstairs was lesbian (in that time and place, we didn't the awareness we do now! LOL).

She told me about the Small Planet book. From time to time, she would open her fridge and I would be amazed to see all manner of jars in there with things growing in them - sprouts, homemade yogurt, etc.

I have fun memories of my college years, the diversity was a bonus.

Where does she talk about eating butter to reverse hormonal aging? Just curious as I tend to think that being careful can prevent premature aging but that when women get to 35+ or whenever they start to get significant hormonal changes they are going to start looking older. If this could be addressed it would be a big help.

On veganism, I do eat some meat and fish but I have friends who are meat eaters, veggies and vegans. Out of the three I'd say the veggies who eat dairy look the best and the youngest for longest. Eating meat puts a huge strain on your digestive system and you body uses a lot of energy to process the meat you eat, energy that could otherwise be used on vital tissue repair. I'd be veggie if I could but I just can't give up my meat!

I was a vegan in my 20s which was the entire decade of the 90s. In my late 20s I developed adult acne and early premenopause symptoms-- crawly skin, occasional insomnia, severe pms, a hot flash or two and I even had heart palpitations once. I am pretty much convinced this was the end result of not eating animal foods---- I damaged myself hormonally due to a lack of cholesterol as a precursor to steroid hormone formation and put myself on a fast track to aging/menopause. I was not able to turn it around in my early 30s because I STILL did not eat enough aninmal fats. I've been on chemical HRT since I was 33 and in the last year BHRT to deal with what has turned out to be (most likely) a preventable nightmare.

It would have never occurred to me that saturated fats could have solved/prevented the problem!

Nancy worked with an endocrinologist named Diana Schwarzbein who promotes the use of saturated fats. I've been surfing around trying t find more information about the hormonal effects and saturated fat it appears is so controversial that we're just not at that point yet....No one wants to admit the truth of what happens on a truly *low fat* diet. I'm finding some good info reading about coconut oil which is a good veggie source of saturated fats for people who are conditioned against butter for politically correct reasons. The last few years I've bought ghee in a jar rather than going to the dairy section for butter. Just appeals to me more! I bought coconut oil last night, really like it. I woke up feeling rested for once.

I just remembered Susan Powter, the 1990s "Stop the Insanity" TV informercial guru was big on low fat dieting. She is still around, looking haggard in some of her videos... and often incoherent. Very Happy

In my own case I thought for years a tablespoon or two of olive oil was enough fat, I did not think of myself as being on a "low fat diet". In recent years I might have eaten a pound or pound and a half at most of ghee per month. Am going to use 2-3 tablespoons of butter and/or coconut oil for the next few months just to see what happens.
