I would probably feel I was not getting the protection from the sun screen if I mixed it together with clear and exforderm.

I agree with this. I don't see any problem combing the other ingredients, as that is pretty much what you are doing when you rub them in one after the other, but the sunscreen I think I would leave out of the mixture and apply that on its own to make sure you were getting the correct protection.

This would be my concern as well!

Hi hotdocgirl, Obagi is great to fade pigmentation concerns and to even out your skin tone. A lot of use the clarisonic to help control the peeling and flakiness that comes with the initial use of the all the dryness the products produce.

I'm on maintenance now and have found that it has really helped to even out and improve my skin tone.

FFlyer... yeah..copper peptides have been great on a certain level..but I do have a spot on my face that is still there...so I do need the obaji magic..at least some clear for sure. I'm tired of waiting for the cp's to work on this..it has taken way too long.

hotdocgirl, you will find the Obagi Clear will really help with the pigmentation spot. The clear is 4% HQ. Twice daily application and you should see some noticeable difference. It will still take a few weeks, but it should really help.

Good point on using the sunscreen separately, I agree that would be best and will start doing that. Another thing I like about the Jane Iredale is that it all has sunscreen in it as well, so I also get protection from that.

I did obaji a few years ago...and I've fallen off..I do still use some retin A and I've been doing copper peptides since last October. I have to say... I am sorry I left Obaji. I do like what cp's have done for me. But they don't give you that young youthful flawless skin that obaji does. cp's do tighten.. So I'm going back.. IT IS Worth IT!!!

Hi hotdocgirl, how about a combination of Obagi and CP's? I actually have just started this combo on Monday. At night I am using the RA/Blender and in the morning I am using the CP. Just a thought since you have had good results from the CP's?

Hi All,

I'm brand new to this forum (and feeling a little desperate) At the end of June this summer, I had my face/neck resurfaced with a laser. I endured the 2 weeks of healing and was just beginning to think I might be happy with the results when the breakouts occurred. Say what? I haven't had breakouts or acne since high school (pushing 60 now). When I went back for my follow-up visit, my aestetician gave limited feedback or information about the results of the resurfacing (definitely disappointed in that regard)- just took my "after" photo which I thought was hideous because my face was so broken out and then recommended that I use Obagi. Which I began to do, and what an unpleasant surprise to learn that Obagi starts the whole peeling/redness/healing process again! I feel like I'm going through the process twice (resurfacing and now Obagi). Really? Again? Am so disappointed, but perhaps that's not an Obagi issue and maybe more an issue regarding the lack of communication and information I was provided by the clinic that performed my laser resurfacing.

No matter the resurfacing - that's now in the past, but what about this Obagi regimen? I'm faithfully performing the a.m/p.m. regimen and I look awful. My face is red, slight peeling (not much, just in spots) but I'm also puffy and my under eyes are swollen and puffy (haven't been putting any Obagi under eyes but perhaps the overall puffiness from Obagi products makes my under eyes swell also?) My aestetician described the am/pm skin care process with Obagi, but made no mention of maintenance, and now I see from reading the forum that there's an 18-24 week protocol followed by maintenance. Okay, so now I know I need to go back to my clinic and request more information and clarification. But as for my continuing use of Obagi, I am on day 6 and am looking pretty unsightly. Have a family luncheon to attend today and cringed when I looked in the mirror this morning and saw my red puffy face and swollen under-eyes - am sure everyone will notice although some will be too polite to ask the obvious question, "what in the world happened to your face?" I'm really discouraged right now - I've been through the resurfacing and now the Obagi. So ..... a few questions for anyone who might have some info to share:

1) Will I continue to be red and puffy throughout my entire 18-24 week Obagi regimen? I do have to go to work every day - will I be a walking spectacle the whole time?

2) Will my under eyes remain red and puffy throughout the Obagi process? The under eye bags I've sprouted since using Obagi are hideous. Really, this bothers me much more than anything else. I can deal with the red puffy face, but the swollen under eyes seriously make me look like I've been in a car accident or at the very least extremely sleep deprived and hung over.

3) Is the whole point of Obagi to shed/turn over new skin for a healthier looking surface, and at what point or how do you know when to move from the original protocol to maintenance?

I'm really discouraged right now - am not sure I'd have done any of this had I known it was going to take months and months and months to be able to walk out the door without causing people to stare.

Any tips or feedback would be greatly appreciated. Am willing to stick with the Obagi since I've spent this much money on a skin care system and am finishing up my first week using it.

Help!!!!!

Hi Jan,

I hope someone can help you on this forum if I can't. I'll endeavor to give you some feedback from my own personal experience with obagi. I'm interested to know firstly why they have advised you to use obagi when you have already had laser resurfacing done? I know you mention the results had caused you to break out. Perhaps it's still too early to see the full results from the laser treatment.

Obagi is a form of chemical resurfacing but at a slower rate than a laser treatment using a combination of products. The entire progress can take up to 18 - 24 weeks to achieve the desire results. It's only after this period of time you go onto maintenance, meaning using the products less frequently to maintain the results you have achieved. Unfortunately you will experience a period of redness, peeling, flaking...not too unlike your laser! But this could last the entire 18 week!

I'm just concerned why they think obagi would work better for you if laser didn't? I would of thought you needed more time to actually see the results from a resurfacing before they suggested trying products. The resurfacing laser really wasn't that long again and your skin is still healing and renewing itself.

Poor thing Jan. I so understand your frustration, as does all of us who are Obagians. I am at 11 weeks now and I am still somewhat red and my whole face peels regularly. BUT, it is absolutely manageable at this stage for me. I get it all peeled off in the morning and I use a green tinted face primer to help with the redness. My under eyes looked bad for about two to four weeks but progressively improved with time.

What I will say is that my face has NEVER looked so good. NEVER. I regularly have people ask me if my daughter is my sister and I am 44! It is so smooth, pore size has dramatically diminished, tone is completely even. It is WOW! So, hang on if you can. As they all say - IT'S WORTH IT!!!!

Jan, I would definitely go back and get more information from your office. The puffiness concerns me. The redness, peeling/flaking, etc are normal. That can be off and on through the entire 18 weeks. I do not think the puffiness is normal. Are you using all of the Nu Derm products and what sunscreen are you using?

Maybe the office is thinking that Obagi can enhance your laser process but that is something for your office to answer for you. As far as knowing when to go on maintenance, again, that is something that the person who is following you will be able to tell you.

The only thing I will say about Obagi is that it is still the only thing that has ever produced visible results on my skin. You are using "proven" products that actually work and do what they claim to do, especially with the tretinoin. Definitely wish you the best of luck, and hope you will come back and post what information you find out from your office!

Hi Jan, Sorry to read about experience, I was reading on a website just yesterday that it can take up to 6 months to fully heal and see the benefits of the treatment, I'm unsure if this may only be specific to certain types of laser treatments, This maybe the reason why you didn't see instant results. I'm unsure why you would have been put on obagi in the first place but I agree with Rileygirl and fongflyer5, I would definitely be going back to the aesthetician/derm to get some more answers, in fact you should check out the site I mentioned above and look at the Q & A section under laser treatments, I think you can ask questions too, the questions are answered by MD/plastic surgeons/derms/aestheticians:
