I have tretinoin cream .025% that I used to use for my under eye wrinkles, but I found that it made the wrinkles worse. It bothered me so much I went and got about 5 units of botox under each eye, but that was a waste
Should I start using the retin a again but slowly? How many times a week should I use it, and does it go on alone or under a moisturizer? Also, how long should I wait to let the retin a absorb before applying moisturizer? |

It can take 6 months to start to see improvement. Your eye area will look worse better it gets better, this can last months. For the eye area, I feel its better to either buffer with moisturizer first or to mix with moisturizer. Definitely listen to your skin but I'd only use 3x week to start.
Its a shame that a dr gave you botox under your eye area. Its not effective or indicated for that area. |

My derm said it can cause the lower eyelid to droop. |

Actually I'd start off much slower using it only 1x a week and building up. 3x might be too much for you even at the low strength your using but it does take at least a year before you get major results but they do come but you got to work slowly. |

I have been using a prescription retinoid now for about 1.5 years and really like the results from it. It hasn't completely eradicated my acne, but it keeps it at bay as long as I use it in conjunction with benzoyl peroxide and other gentle/non-comedogenic products. Every night that I put it on, I dab some of the cream around my eye area. Seems to be working okay, but I am 25, so I'm using it mainly for prevention, not reversal. |

That seems odd since its suppose to have the opposite effect. Many do use around the eye area although its not recommended due to irritation. |

Retin-A is very effective for whiteheads, blackheads and wrinkles. It takes at least 6 months to see a noticeable difference in wrinkles. The best benefit is seen if Retin-A is used for at least a year. |

I would not use any other acids while using retin-a, atleast not on the eye area. |

It depends on your skin, really. Some people can tolerate it while others don't |

Retin A 0.025% is too strong to start with even on the face sometimes if the skin is sensitive. I always start with 0.01% every other day, and work it up to daily, then when three months went by I switch to 0.025%. However, for the undereye area, you might want to stick to 0.01% every other day, as the skin is very thin there. The wrinkles got worse because you dried out the skin. It is an initial effect only. Good luck. |

Yes depending on the depth of the wrinkles. |

Under eye wrinkles are one of the more difficult areas to correct.
First, there are creams; The most promising contain alpha hydroxy acids, Retin-A, or estrogen. Other ingredients that are promising but not yet clinically proven to combat wrinkles are retinol, green tea, lycopene and progesterone.
Microdermabrasion is used around the eyes to gently exfoliate, revealing tighter, younger-looking skin underneath. Laser or light-blast treatments do essentially the same thing, but have the ability to target smaller, more precise trouble spots
BOTOX is another option to fight under-eye wrinkles. Many doctors recommend very small 2-3 units under the eye to soften expression lines. It involves carefully injecting a small amount of Botox under your eyes to paralyze the muscles around the eye, smoothing out the wrinkles.
A light glycolic peel also works well for lower lid wrinkles.

I'd treat the area with a great eye cream for now...I hear nothing but great things about obaji elasti derm. you can get it on amazon for way cheaper... it is a system that really works on the eyes..but it takes time. My estheticans says it really works. For lower cost..I've always found Loreal eye cream to really work for me. But when I do use my retin a or cp's ...or retinol.. I put a small amount every now and then blended with my eye cream..to keep the skin young. But just attacking the eye area with any of those will damage the delicate tissue there and make your eyes look old.
Sounds like you're doing too much too fast on all fronts. |
