I break out a bit on my chest and shoulders a bit (few spots / week).. Currently using dermalogica anti bac wash on it but it makes it run out twice as fast if Im using it on my body as well as my face. It helps control the problem to an extent but the spots are pretty relentless unfortunately.

Hi there evilMC,

I used to have pretty severe breakouts on my chest and back but have maintained the situation by using Clinique's bar soap. I use the maximum strength (for oily skin) bar soap. It's a HUGE bar of soap for about $8.00 (US). Don't just rub the soap directly on your skin -- use a loofah or an exfoliating sponge and work it into your chest and back areas. It doesn't have any strong smells or anything but it's really helped my situation.

Another thing you want to consider is what shampoo/conditioner you are using. I realized my problem was that my shampoos were all very greasy/oily and contributed to my ance problem (since I had really really long hair). I now use Paul Mitchell's Tea Tree Shampoo and Conditioner (Tea Tree is very soothing and relaxing).

If you love your shampoo and conditioner, my advice is to shampoo and condition your hair -- then use the soap so that you can wash off any residue of the shampoo/conditioner that's on your skin (in case it exacerbates the breakout problem).

I've personally been using the Clinique soap for about 7-8 years now -- so I trust it. Just go to their counter or website and ask for the Maximum Strength / Oily skin bar soap (it's supposed to be used for the face, but whatever). They'll ask if you want a replacement or a new one with a dish -- it's up to you. I bought the dish cuz the bar of soap is TOO LARGE to fit in a regular soap dish (if you happen to be traveling or something -- although you could always cut the bar in half if you needed to).

Hope this helps

Murad Acne Body Wash is a good one to try, and by using it on one of those loofah sponge/puffs, a little will go a long way!

Hi Lisa & Caspers Mum.

Thanks very much for the advice! Funny you should mention Clinique! I used to use it before i switched to dermalogica but never even thought to use the soap on my body!!

I am going to try both solutions for definite. For some reason the body spots take longer to clear which is very annoying. The Murad Wash sounds very impressive indeed.

Once again, many thanks

Hi again evilMC,

I hope you find something that works out for you. If the situation is pretty bad, I would start out with the Murad solution since it's supposed to fight acne. However, once the situation is "under control," I would use Clinique as a maintenance tool since Murad is about 4 times the price of the Clinique soap ($35 vs. $8, I believe). I'm sure both will work, but you might see faster results with Murad since it's such a strong product.

Good luck!

Sorry, I know this topic is really old, but I thought I would offer up some ideas to anyone who is dealing with this problem. Jason Naturals makes this really lovely, all-natural tea tree oil hand and face soap. I keep it in the shower and my husband and I use it as a body wash. Not only does it smell WONDERFUL, you get a huge amount of it for the money so it takes forever to run out, and the tea tree oil keeps body blemishes away. Sometimes I use it on my face too.^-^ If your situation is REALLY dire, you can follow it up with a dusting of Jason Naturals Tea Tree Oil Body Powder, as it will absorb oil AND kill blemish-bacteria between showers. You can get both items at Whole Foods, Wild Oats, Drugstore.com, etc.
