im really upset about my skin because i keep getting this thing every couple of weeks its awful.Last time the doctor said id had an allergic reaction. Im 14 so im very self consious (which doesn't make this any easier!)
My skin on my face will start out with dry patches on the inside of my cheeks and on my chin and around my lips so ill shove lots of moisturiser on it (makes sense)but then the dry patches will grow and turn bright red!!! i know im not allergic to the moisturiser because ive never had any problems before. And then my cheeks start to swell up and get bigger and redder etc etc etc...
If anyone has any ideas on what it could be id really like i you could post back soon.
Thanks x |

ooooh poor you! Have you noticed if it comes and goes with your period? could be hormonal, going with ovulation/menstruation. When you say 'inside of your cheeks' do you mean in your mouth? What moisturiser are you using? You can develop allergies so it could be that.
My gut feeling is to skip the moisturiser next time it happens and put either olive oil or emu oil on.
Maybe you could get an appointment at a derms when you have the bad phase?
My heart goes out to you as I know how awful it is at this age.
Good luck, Liz (another, older more wrinkly one! ) |

Liz....
Are you using any type of astringent or toner? I have had a similar experience when I was using a toner that was too strong for me skin.
Just a thought.

I wonder if this could be an allergy to something completely not skincare related. Like for example eating a certain type of food (seafood?) or inhaling a certain type of chemical (house cleaning?). I would suggest you go see a Derm. They might send you to do an allergy test and that might shed some light.
If it's not the above and it's not hormonal, then are you using any other products on your face at all apart from the moisturiser? |

Good luck Liz!!! You say that it's not your moisturizer. It most likely isn't. However, just because you used a product before with no reaction doesn't mean that you can't develop an allergy to it. As said above, I would not use anything on your face for a period of time.
Glad you ae seeing your derm. Let us know how you do. |

Have you tried Cetaphil? It's a very gentle cleanser that can be used without water (which can be drying too) and also works as a moisturizer.
Every dermatologist I've ever known seems to love it and recommend it.
Good luck, Sweetie!

sounds like eczema or some sort of dermatitis
that can be tricky to treat and trial and error, if it is the best advice I can is to keep things simple, even if it means just using pure olive oil because as soon as you start using mixed products you never really know which ingredient is upsetting your skin. Best of luck. |
