Hi,

I am wondering how LED treatments done at the dermatologist/spa compare to at-home LED devices?

I have seen several videos by dermatologists who claim at- home LED devices wouldn't nearly deliver as 'professional' in-office LED treatments.

But then again, I am aware of there is a conflict of interest as the dermatologists/spa owners obviously want to sell their rather expensive treatments...

Thank you for your input, and have a nice weekend.

Hi Mel - Can give you some general experience with both types - I have a home AAlightstim which is used about 2X a week and have used for over 3 years. It does a great job on pores and smoothing the surface of the skin. I have also had treatments done by the Lumiere (professional
model) which were done every other day for a 2 week period. That has done a great job on
pigmentation, plumping of the skin, pores etc.
I could actually feel the difference of the strength of the lights betwen the two. However,
if maintenance is not kept up from the professional Lumiere, those results will erode over time. The Lumiere is definitely more powerful but also several thousand dollars.
The AAlightstim is about $300. I have tried to keep the results of the Lumiere "alive" by
maintaining with the AAlightstim but that hasn't worked very well. However, the AAlightstimhas done some very great things for my skin since originally using and I couldn't do without it. HTH DiPhx

Hi DiPhx

Thank you for your reply.

"However,
if maintenance is not kept up from the professional Lumiere, those results will erode over time."

May I ask how long the results lasted?
And did you have any unwanted side effects? (Like fat loss, skin sagging etc.)

Many thanks!

Hi Mel - Yes - maintenance needs to be kept up from the Lumiere as well. The plumping probably lasts about 6 months; however the loss
of sun spots was more permanent. The smoothness of the face lasted several months as well. If there are a lot of anti aging issues, maybe start with the professional but keep maintenance with the home LED. If there are not a lot of aging issues, maybe all you need is the home LED. After doing a lot of reading and from experience, the antiaging lightstime is one of the better bets.

I am very curious about this too, but even more than anti-aging, do you have any comments about the blue LED lights for anti-acne? Home devices vs professional? And in general how well either works?

I have a red LED for anti ageing and I do love it. I usually use it about 5 nights a week. My skin does look a little plumped afterwards but nothing dramatic. But I still do it!!

Home use is not going to be as strong as office use but then the price is different too!

"The plumping probably lasts about 6 months"

I use a blue LED light at the moment (to compensate lack of sunshine in winter), and my skin is a bit plumped after each use, but the effect doesn't last longer than 1-2 days, so I assumed it is just micro-swelling due to fluid accumulation or similar.

It's very interesting that you say the in-office treatment lasted about 6 months...as it means the LED activates truly something in the skin, probably collagen production, which isn't a temporary one day gimmick.

Thank you for your replies, it really helped me...

Hi Mel - rerally did enjoy the Lumiere - all the lights were "yellow" on it. Each session lasted for 20 minutes and covered the entire face. The spa would only let you use every other day - am glad the info helped. Home devices just are not as expensive or strong as professional devices - glad the info helped.

Re this question, I'd make this analogy: I have two vacuum cleaners. One is a great big powerful plug-in model (which is a hassle to use) the other is a lightweight rechargeable. I used to use the large plug-in about once a week but I find a quick daily whip around with the rechargeable every day still keeps the house clean.

So what am I saying by all this nonsense: I'm saying that whilst the professional LED treatment might be more powerful, you can obtain just as good results with a small handheld used more often!
