I recently started using the Tanaka face massage technique but have also noticed some pores that have just appeared more open on my cheeks.
Has anyone else experienced having more visible pores from doing the tanaka face massage?
I have also recently started using dove soap to wash my face so I'm wondering whether it may be because of that?
Anyone shed light on the matter? |

It might be due to the use of soap. I don't use soap anymore since I discovered it was too harsh and irritating for me.
What do you use to massage with? I've heard that some just use water, which for me wouldn't be gentle enough (too much friction), so I use various carrier oils mixed with a little castor oil (ocm). My pores are looking smaller and smaller. |

Hi, yeah I use regular moisture lotion with the massage but I've stopped with the massage because I'd rather have a fatter face with smooth skin than a defined face with open pores.
Is this a regular thing for pores to look more open when doing the tanaka? Does the massage of flesh cause pores to enlargen or something? |

As I said, I incorporate some Tanaka massage and my pores are looking smaller and smaller. I doubt that Tanaka massage, has much to do with your large pores. I'm thinking its the soap or whatever "moisture lotion" you're using that's the culprit.
Or look at one of the OCM (Oil Cleansing Method) threads. Its possible that massage has brought blackheads/congestion to the surface (enlarging the pores) but hasn't been extracted yet. |

| Another vote for the soap being the culprit; soaps are generally alkaline and Dove certainly stripped the skin. Try a lotion with a pH of 5.5. |

Enlarged pores are a sign that your skin is missing its moisture barrier and is verging on chronic dehydration. I dont know of any massage that can strip the moisture barrier awway and dehydrate skin. However soaps are well known for doing it.
Dont buy into the Dove marketing, its an alkaline soap, which is bad news for skin which is naturally on the acid side of things. |
