Hello! I'm new to the forum Smile I've been reading alot about the OCM and I want to try it. I'm 17 years old with very dry, very sensitive skin. Not extremely prone to breakouts. I've made a list of things that I was thinking of starting off with.

Toner:
Lavender Oil
Orange Blossom Water
Rose Water
Dark Bottle

Cleanser:
Caster Oil
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Bottle

Moisturizer:
Jojoba Oil
Almond Oil
Sesame Oil
Olive Oil
Bottle

Mask:
Honey
Plain Yogurt
Bananas

Is this way too excessive? What oils would you recommend. This is my first time using any form of all natural skincare.
Thanks!

If you have sensitive skin, less truly is more. It's hard, but really, don't add in too many things all at once. You'll make yourself miserable trying to figure out what you're having a reaction to if you do wind up having a reaction.

Toner...your best friend will be rose water. Rose is very balancing and soothing and will help even out skin tone. Lavender can be irritating. If you can get a hold of some rose oil, it's worth the investment. You can add it to any creams or oils you may use and the benefits have to be seen to believed - absolutely amazing.

OCM...go for 25% castor oil or LESS (since you have super dry, sensitive skin) and EVOO. My personal preference is castor plus sunflower seed oil or virgin coconut oil. Sunflower seed oil has the most amazing glossy texture as it glides over your skin and is really good for your skin. Sesame seed oil is wonderful, as well - similar to sunflower seed oil.

Moisture...go for something lighter that will sink in better than EVOO. Sesame is great for this. Sunflower, again, is also wonderful for this. If you can get a hold of squalane, this is even better.

Mask...do whatever you want. I'm a huge fan of honey/yogurt/banana.

You could also try just straight Jojoba oil, as the Castor Oil can be drying on dry sensitive skin.

I also agree don't jump in with too many things all at the same time, you won't know the culprit if you do react to something. Very Happy

I also have dry skin and find that many of the recommended oils\emollients for dry skin just dont work at all for me. Heres some of the items I found particularly useless...

Shea butter - feels like chicken fat on my skin and has zero ability to moisturise or protect. Emu oil & lanolin work for me instead.

Olive oil - does not soak in and feels a little drying. Avocado oil by contrast is creamy and soaks in like nothing else.

Apricot kernel oil - is ok bur far too light in texture to be a staple. I do use it to dilute
heavier oils in though. Rosehip oil works much better for me with its high fatty aid content.

Castor oil - anethma to my skin, any oil cleanses just as well and wont dry you out like castor oil does. Rice bran oil with avocado oil are the players in my cleansing oil. Rice bran oil on its own is too drying so I add 10% avo oil and uts silky and wonderful.

You will find that some recommended oils are just yuck on your skin, as its an individual thing and there are so many oils to try. Stick with the basics for now and gradually eliminate options. Go for oils that you can repurpose if they dont work out, like the cooking oils rather than the expensive exotic oils.

I use coconut oil by itself. I also mix EVOO and almond oil if I want something different from coconut oil.

I agree, castor oil can be drying but I would suggest that you try it at maybe 15% because it's such a great oil. If it doesn't work, then leave it out.

Olive oil broke me out, but it can be good for you. You never know unless you try the different oils.

For your skin type, I would try 15% castor oil, 15% jojoba oil and 70% olive oil.

I like castor and grapeseed oil. It's light but hydrating. I second whoever said not to mix many things at the same time. Start with two ingredients, gauge your reaction, and then start adding individual ingredients so you'll know what you're reacting to if you have an adverse reaction.
