How about it? As you start 2012...will you do anything different in your approach to skincare?

I will continue my belief that use of topicals are better than most anything for young skin.

However, this new year, I'd like to to work more on internal aspects of skincare...targeting diet, supplements ..and exercise...to see how that impacts my skin. I've been doing some reading on how to naturally raise HGH to keep skin young. It is interesting.

Great topic Very Happy

I think for me I just need more belief that everything I'm doing is working Wink I tend to be very hard on myself, so I'm going to be less hard and realize that what I've got is pretty good really Very Happy

I'm already very thorough with supplements, diet, exercise, great skincare products and sunscreen -- my skin specialist who I've been seeing for 3 years tells me I'm very blessed in that my actual skin is in good condition from all of my hard work and avoiding sun on my face and religious use of sunscreen since my late teens - I'm 40 now - anyway my skin doc says my skin is 10 years younger than my chronological age - which is always fantastic to hear

I agree, a healthy diet and exercise are great for the skin. Anything you'd recommend to increase HGH?

For me, I'm trying to increase my greens and cut back on sweets (my weakness!). In 2012, I'll continue searching for something to add volume to my cheeks and help with the sagging (facial exercises for 6+ months made me look gaunt and I had a bad reaction to fillers, so the common solutions are out for me...)

Happy 2012 everyone!

Hi,
I just started with peels, so this new year, I plan to use it regularly and increase the strength until I can reach the best poreless skin as much as possible.

I am still searching for the perfect formulation, texture and protection of sunscreen.

Be less stressed/anxious. I find that's the hardest thing for me, as I tend to over-analyze everything.

Switch to all natural skincare, improve my diet, really focus on dermarolling.

I'd like to stop procrastinating and get everything done before I start doing pointless web-browsing on the internet.

I'd like to start exercising and eating more/more healthily.

In terms of skincare, I'd like to worry a little less about my skin/appearance (i.e. accept my beauty for what it is), but at the same time, I'd like to wear sunscreen as much as I can (to prevent premature aging and also reduce the risk of skin cancer)

I just started researching. I watched the Dr. Oz show and some specialist said to do squats to promote hgh. So, in my reading...I see that strength training..anaerobic exercise increases hgh. So does good deep sleep, low glycemic foods, and less stress. But all of this? we've heard and know is good for us overall. oh yeah..they also talk about supplement. Just google ... "how to promote hgh natually" and you'll get all sorts of stuff to read.

Hello,
I am new to this site. And have found it to be a site I will continue to use. For My New Years Resolution, I have just ordered a Derma Roller. I have done my research and I am ready to start. Its a treatment that provides multiple benefits. The rollers are proven to increase the absorption of the active ingredients in creams, lotions, and serums by up to 1000%. So I am going to give it a try! And will keep you informed weekly. Keeping my fingers crossed that it gives me great results.

Happy 2012!
And yes, great topic & ditto Glamcat!

My beauty resolution is to chill out and try and be kind and cool about things, especially to myself since that's who I'm hardest on. I honestly think that when I look at even these superficial things I'm trying to work on with a less critical eye (and less furrowed brow, LOL!), it somehow helps escalate things to go my way.

And yes, I've done a good deal of homework so I'm pretty sure that with all the simple goodies and habits I've picked up so far in the way of day to day upkeep there's no reason I should have to spend my energy worrying about not aging well. Smile

This is what I do for a living so the following is evidence-based. Be careful what you read on Google, there is a HUGE amount of fitness and nutrition rubbish out there.

High intensity strength training - that means using as many muscles as possible at once, plenty of legs/ glutes (largest muscles in body), for most women heavier weights than they think they can lift, slow repetitions and relatively short rest periods, strict technique, to momentary failure. Supersets and drop sets help exhaust your whole muscle, not just the 'weakest link', but they are not for beginners. Never work out for longer than an hour, never when your muscles are tired, you haven't eaten properly, you are not feeling well, as this puts too much stress on the body and will be counter-productive.

Squats are effective IF done well, but they rarely are. Few people squat low enough and most give up with legs/ glutes exercises long before they actually reach failure because it can be extremely painful. Your legs should literally be like jelly when you are done! Lunges or lunge-squat combos or whole body exercises are better IME. Most people need a training partner/ great personal trainer to do a quality leg workout. Women often need someone to put a heavy bar on their shoulders for squats, and their lumbar spine may not be strong enough to take what their legs can. Then there is high intensity interval training, the amount of sleep you get and nutrition aspects ... but the above is enough to scare you already!!

There are actually a couple of excellent US fitness magazines for women - Oxygen and Fitness Rx particularly. Don't get frightened that the women look halfway between a model and a bodybuilder, those ladies are competition standard in fitness or figure, their workouts and diet are their whole lives and a *few* use steroids or dodgy supplements. Few of us mere mortals have the genetics nor the commitment to get to that standard, nor would we use unsafe substances.

I second what firefox has written. My background includes nutrition and I have trained extensively. Squats are one of the hallmarks of my fitness routine. I think it's great Firefox is giving details and providing a basis for understanding the importance of doing things properly.
I used to get Oxygen magazine. I found it okay for a while - food ideas and fitness routines can be helpful but a year subscription was enough for me.

As Firefox certainly knows the women profiled are photographed at their absolute, phenomenal best. I train at a gym where we have two fitness champions in our state and I've also seen them at their worst. And their worst is still fabulous but you wouldn't know them from their winning photos.
It's cool. They are great women. They work hard, train hard, eat well - and do this more or less as a regular lifestyle but in between the Killer meets, they don't and couldn't look like the photos that post on the gym wall and magazines.

My goals for 2012 are to focus primarily on green foods, decrease most gluten, incorporate juicing, work on glycemic index for insulin control - also more rounded in my exercise routine.... changing things up more and work with stabilizing my hormones - I'm 53 and the challenge gets greater.
Skin care wise - I'm happy as a clam.

I worked hard on diet/exercise last year so will continue with that. This year I plan to do more yoga, improve my morning skin routine, and maybe start exploring Flex Effect or some kind of facial exercise. Also, gain 5 lbs. Very Happy

Trying to remember to drink more water each and every day. It is so good for skin as well as overall health.

Also, planning to simplify across my life. Less is more they say.

For anyone who's interested in tracking their nutrient intake, http://nutritiondata.self.com/ is a good website for that. It's a bit of a pain to use on a daily basis, but checking the quality of your average intake is pretty eye-opening. You can also search for foods high in whatever nutrient you want.

I have been drinking green smoothies, cut out sugar and salty snacks, and limiting myself to one main meal a day (snacking on fruit or celery).

Despite only a few hours sleep the past couple of days, 10 days into this healthier way of eating and my husband has commented tonight that I have got my old face back. I know what he means, as the puffiness and general blurring of my features are gone, and my face looks 'brighter.'

I hope to exercise more this year, and continue with Ageless face building that I've just started too.

To apply sunblock everyday, even when it's cloudy outside. Need to prevent further aging and other skin problems!

Also to continue with whatever I've been doing in terms of my diet and exercising Smile

I'm after Less is More. Not that being over 50 takes less but I'm going to maximize everything. Better food everyday, at the gym - add in some facial exercises too. I've finally figured out the BEST skin care and processes for me (well I'm close as I've ever been). I'm going to use up extraneous product and focus down and tight! Very Happy EDS and some key posters have helped tremenously to get me to this point.

Firefox/sister sweets - do you mind sharing the names of the sources you use for evidence based information?

That would be appreciated.

2012 will be an important year for me. After considerable time and effort, I got the rest of my act together (finances, family, stability,), so I now I get to boost my healthcare regimen, to take it up a few notches.

I am planning an extended hike this summer, so I need to get ready.

I am considering plastic surgery in September.

I want to resume peels and dermarolling. When stressed, I could not comprehend self-inflicting any further - but I am beyond that now, thankfully.

Continue studying Buddhism and meditation techniques.

To spread love and joy - to call out injustice where I see it.

Barefoot - Plastic Surgery Exclamation - what do you have in mind?
I've done lots of extended hiking and biking - it truly does take some building up - especially if you are over 40. It will work well with your meditative goals.

My research is all over the internet - A lot of what I find starts out from dental research sites and leads me "astray"; One site leading to another site. I do like some of Dr. Mercola's information and I also have access to JAMA, The American Academy of Periodontics sites and paid for Nutrition sites. I try to be careful what I read in terms of value - that said I'm not afraid of less credentialled sites if they make sense and ultimately prove their point and get me thinking and moving! I also enjoy Tonya Zavasta's information. She is educated and is living proof of her methods - although her site would hardly be considered juried.
