I have never washed my cosmetic brushes before, but today when I looked at them, I thought since I am smearing it onto my face, I should wash them or rinse them with something every now and then? Is there any special way to wash them? I dont want to ruin them since I spent an arm and a leg on most of them!
thank you

Brushes used in wet or creamy products should be cleaned after every use; brushes used in dry products whenever they seem a little grimy but at least swirl them on clean tissue after each use. You can purchase special brush cleanser or just use a gentle shampoo or DIY - there is a recipe on EDS if you run a search. Do not get the ferrule (the bit where the bristles join the handle) too wet because the glue can dissolve and the bristles fall out. The brushes need drying bristles down for the same reason, that means hanging them by string or buying some brush guards from eBay. You can dry them lying flat but obviously some water will get in the ferrule. Never dry them stood upright handles down.

If you have been sticking dirty brushes from your face back into the product you will need to clean all your products too.

I wipe my brushes with clean tissue every time right after use and from time to time dry clean them by showering them in a box of translucent shade loose powder that i no longer use and again wipe away all powder with tissue. Some use talc powder but i dont think loose powder means more for the face.

Even I clean my brushes every time I use them, on baby wipes (nothing removes eye/face makeup better than baby wipes). Every 2 weeks I do the thorough cleaning with olive oil than baby shampoo.
First I dip each brush in lil bit of olive oil and using circular motion to clean it on paper towel. Than clean it up with baby shampoo making sure not to get the area too wet where bristles join the handle.
