So I have heard good things about OCM (Oil Cleansing Method) and I want to start it. However from what I have read it seems like it can be time consuming, so I only want to do it a couple times a week. Is OCM effective if it is only down one to two times a week? Can I use a cleanser between OCM washes? Right now I am using an all natural cleanser, but I might I want to try an Olay Cleanser or Simple brand skincare. |

Also what type of oils would you all recommend? I have combination skin that is acne-prone. |

There is an excellent thread on OCM over on the DIY board, quite long but well worth reading the first and last ten pages. |

Yes, OCM is still helpful if you do it once or twice a week. That is what I do I do one or two long sessions (20 min) a week. |

I prefer to use OCM as I would any other cleansing method. I simply use the oils to cleanse off my makeup but I don't spend ages doing all the massage. Therefore, my routine is quick and easy - I do it every evening.
Anyway, whatever you choose to do is fine. Just be sure to thoroughly rinse away all the oil with hottish water and a wash cloth.
I use a 50/50 combination of Castor and Olive Oil.
See here for lots of good info on OCM:

I only use it when my face is flaking really badly, usually 2-3 times a week.
And I have been using straight up olive oil because the castor oil blends made me really dry and itchy. I don't know if it was the castor oil or the grapeseed oil (the combo I initally began with last year)but I had a bad reaction to one of them.
Since switching to olive oil, I've had no problems and it works like a charm to remove my dry flaky skin. |
