Hello community,
I am sure this question has been asked a million times on here, but the more I read and research the more I am getting confused at the moment:
I am simply looking for a good starter Vitamin A cream against first wrinkles and sunspots.
I am calling it Vitamin A because I believe there are 3 different versions - Retinol, Retin A and Renova - which are available as creams, gels and serums in different strengths (0.25% to 2%). I also believe there are a few generic products on the market.
My problem is simple really: thousands of products, even more advise on which one to get and a huge price variety.
Can somebody point me to a few good products that worked on themselves. I don't really mind the price but is it really necessary to spend $100 on a cream that you can get for $10 - and if so, why?
Any input greatly appreciated. |

Retin-A and Renova are brand names for the active ingredient tretinoin AKA retinoic acid, a prescription only medication. Being a drug Retin-A is arguably the most effective against ageing and sun damage but is also the most likely to cause side effects/ irritation. If you want to go that route you really need to do a ton of research, best thing to do is an advanced search here and on Skincaretalk forums and read all the longest threads. Additionally or alternatively consult with your dermatologist.
Retinol is an active ingredient, and one of a number of forms of vitamin A (retinoids) that can legally be included in cosmetics under a vast array of brand names. The problem you will have comparing commercial retinoid creams is that different forms are more or less active, depending how easily the body can convert them to retinoic acid. Also you often don't know the percentage of retinoid in the product, so there might not be enough present to be beneficial. Which retinoid suits you depends on your skin issues, skin type and current routine. You should also look at the rest of the formulation, there may or may not be other proven actives or irritants that you wish to avoid. With many expensive products you are paying for glossy advertising campaigns or headline 'actives' that are unproven. |

Thanks for posting AnnaT - I have been thinking about this myself.
My face can not tolerate Retin-A. I was thinking of trying NCNs Strongest All-Trans Retinol 2.0%.
Has anyone tried this?
