What exactly is the damage that occurs to skin during pregnancy. I don't mean stretch marks, but rather how the skin looks loose, thin, and kind of "hanging". All the weight has been lost and the ab muscles (TVA and RA) have regained their strength--it's solely a skin issue. Is it damage to the elastin or to both the collagen and elastin? Or is it some other type of damage?
And has anyone found anyways to fix it? |

I am more interested in little brown dots that appear everywhere and on my face during pregnancy. I am pregnant now and was wondering if any of you guys know what I can do to prevent more brown spots or treat the once I got within last few months. What can I use while pregnant? |

UmEnis, have you checked out the No-Lipo Lipo thread here: http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=34409 This, along with dry brushing, can help firm skin. But if your skin is very loose and hangs like an apron, a tummy tuck or mini tuck may be your only option. If it's just slightly loose, there is another procedure called laser skin tightening. But if this is the case and I were you, I'd first try the No-Lipo Lipo and dry brushing. But those two together will take a little time to see results.
Getproducts, you are talking about melasma, right? I didn't get this while pregnant, but they started to appear on my cheeks about 3-4 years ago. I first did a round of 4 IPL treatments, which I later found out can make melasma worse. Then a friend told me about TCA peels to use at home (bought mine here: http://www.makeupartistschoice.com/catalog/Melasma-77-1.html), and I've been doing these every few months. My melasma is now about 75% faded. I've done about 5-6 treatments. I think 2-3 more and they will be gone.
You can also try skin lightening creams, too. There is one praised here called Devine Derriere. Check out the before and after pictures here: http://www.divinederriere.com/beforeandafter.htm
Oh, and always, always wear sunscreen to prevent them from getting worse and protect your delicate skin during and after you've removed the spots. |

That's a great idea about the no lipo lipo sandooch, i had actually asked Carol Maggio if she thought it would work for this, she said yes, but then I completely forgotten about it! looks like people love it on the first few pages of the thread... probably should be my next investment.
what i was wondering also, was what is the damage from? its obviously stretched skin... so is it the elastin that got damaged? the collagen? what kind of actives/ topicals would be best?
i know Dr Pickart at skinbiology recommends CP's for tightening breast skin... but I really am not too into CPs, they didn't work very well for me. |

Being a newbie here still, I'm just getting familiar with all the great products people are talking about (some of which I've never heard about). I would be interested in knowing an answer to your question above as well. Hopefully someone with experience with this will respond to this. |

Does anybody know what I can use while pregnant?
And thank you for advises, I tink I will start with bleaching cream... I get small dots all over my body, at some point I thought it was cancer then I found out I am pregnant... my husband says it is age spots... very funny...
I am wondering what I can do to my skin while I am pregnant to prevent so many damages after... |

Hi, UmEnis.
I think it's more of damage to the skin's collagen because they are the ones that make our skin toned and firm, although damage or weak elastin fibers can contribute to that, too, because of their role to help our skin return to their original shape after being stretched.
I know, however, that Clarins has a good set of products to control or stop sagging skin and stretch marks from pregnancy, including Tonic Body Treatment Oil, Anti-Eau Body Treatment Oil, and Stretch Mark Control, which can be used during and after pregnancy. I have bought my Clarins Stretch Mark Control at eFacialMasks. So far, stretch marks and sagging skin have been quite tolerable after 2 months of using it after giving birth. I sigh to the fact, though, that i only learned recently that it can be used during pregnancy, too... |

Melasma is common during pregnancy. It often fades on its own after you have the baby. I wouldn't try to treat it while you are pregnant, might be like fighting a losing battle and you are limited right now in what you can use that would be effective. |

are you using sunscreen during pregnancy? i am pregnant too and have been very careful about using sunscreen so i haven't developed any melasma or any kind of spots, hopefully it stays that way. i wear sunscreen every day pretty much except on days i am at home all day. |

After giving birth it takes about a year before your body, especially your hormones, is kind of back in shape. Loose skin that seems to have lost elasticity may be an indication of hormone imbalance and probably will sort itself out in time. |

I apply dark spot corrector on new spots and they disappear almost right away. the old ones don't... so I will use dark spot corrector while pregnant to make sure I stay on the top of it as much as I can? no way to know what will happen later in a pregnancy... |
