Hello,

I'm going for my 2nd IPL session this Saturday. I bought a numbing cream with 5% lidocaine on ebay to apply on my face before the treatment. I was wondering for those who have used numbing cream on the face before, how long before the treatment did you apply the cream? How thick do you apply, and do you have to wrap your face with saran wrap? The instruction provided to me from the vendor says that I have to apply 2 hours before treatment, and reapply after the first application and ensure leaving a thick white layer, then put saran wrap on it to keep the cream from drying out. Then reapply again 40 minutes before.

I called the spa today and asked how to apply the cream, and she said just apply like moisturizer, not too thick, 40 minutes before treatment.

So I was wondering would the way the spa tell me to apply the cream actually work? That sounds a lot less work and less complicated than the way the vendor provided instructions that came with the cream.

TIA!

In the past, I've just done what your spa recommended - but I did use the saran wrap.

Ok, so today 45 mins b4 my appt, i applied the numbing cream (5% lidocaine) on my face, not particularly a thick layer, and I tried to focus on the cheekbone area and forehead, wherever I remember to cause a lot of pain during my first IPL. I must admit I neglected my jawline a bit because I didn't think she was going to do it there. Then 25 mins b4, I reapplied right b4 I drove off to the spa. I did not use any saran wrap to cover it up. I really don't know how I was supposed to put it on my face actually, which was the reason I didn't do it. Then I just kept fingers crossed it would numb me enough. Well, I think it worked. She wiped it off b4 treatment, and she said she would increse the intensity from the last time. I was a bit nervous, and she started on my jawline. I could feel the pain a bit on my jawline which I did not apply the numbing cream, but all the other areas especially the parts I paid a lot of attention to, I hardly felt a thing. Also after the treatment, last time I felt burning and asked for ice, but this time I did not feel much of a stinging pain or burning. My face hardly reddened either. My technician said she'd increase the intensity even more next time. I have 2 more sessions to go. Hopefully my spots will all be gone by then.
