I bought the Skinceuticals C E Ferulic serum to use alongside my Obagi NuDerm regimen. But I'm not sure how much to use each time, and where to apply the drops to!
My skin type should fit the Obagi "standard dry protocol" which says I should apply the Professional C Serum Eye Contour 5% and one for the Face at 10%. Since I'm not using the Obagi serum, is the Skinceuticals serum percentage higher or lower than the Obagi?
I've also read that serums can oxidize very quickly and that's why I bought the sample sizes to limit the number of times the contents comes into contact with the air. Are there any other ways to prolong its life?
I have another question about my tretinoin gel. According to my suggested protocol I should be using 1/2 gram of 0.1%. That's a pretty strong concentration, isn't it? It's my first time using retin-a and I already bought the 0.05%. What to do? Should I double the amount of that when applying it to my face?
Can someone help me out? |

After toner, use Skinceuticals C E Ferulic on a totally dry face. Before Nu Derm, I used 5 drops on face and 2 drops on neck. Now my skin is so dry at 6 weeks Nu Derm I use 3 drops per cheek and 1 each forehead and chin and maybe 1 on nose and then 3 drops on neck. Dab whatever is remaining on my finger around the eyes. My skin just drinks it up plus I want to make sure I am totally covered for the extra UV protection boost from Vit C.
Let it soak in for 10-15 minutes if you can before applying Clear because water inactivates Vit C.

It's 15% L-ascorbic acid and 1% alpha tocopherol.

I buy the 2 oz salon size and transfer 2 weeks worth to a small dropper bottle so the big bottle doesn't get opened too often. Store in a dark airtight container in the refrigerator. Never had it oxidize.

Nu Derm is supposed to be used with a cream (not gel) and the .1% tretinoin strength gives the maximum results. Dr. Obagi said you need at least .07% for effectiveness at a deep level.
That being said, .1% is strong and will make you peel like crazy. I am using .1% but had been using it before Nu Derm and I still peel deeply and daily. I rather get the maximum results in a shorter time (the prescribed 18 weeks) even if I look hideous rather than use a lesser strength tretinoin but have to prolong the treatment to get results (some have to do 24 weeks or more). I figure at .05% I am still going to be red and peeling so may as well look super bad but for a shorter time.
HTH and good luck! |

Wow thanks for your input!
I was wondering if you could tell me the difference between Exfoderm Forte and Exfoderm and which you would recommend. I have large pores on my nose where it tends to be the most oily, but otherwise my skin tends to be quite dry everywhere else.
As for the drops. I put some on yesterday and one drop hardly covers much! The drops aren't "spreadable" if you know what I mean. It isn't like a cream that I can spread all over my face, so I was wondering which areas I should target with the drops. The wings of my nose? Or wrinkle-prone areas?
As for the trentinoin gel vs cream, I read elsewhere that the cream is not recommended for people who have oily skin to start with. If you have oily skin you should go with the gel, or that's what I have read. Now I am wondering if I have to go out and buy a tube of 0.1% trentinoin instead. My skin really isn't scarred or hyperpigmented. I don't want to go overboard and use more than I need. At the same time I don't want to have to do this for any longer than I need to. =S What a dilemma!!!! |
