I need to purchase an 8 oz spray bottle for a DIY spritz I'm making. But I'm not sure what would be the most appropriate material. I've seen aluminum and plastic types. When taking into consideration that I have to sterilize it, what would be the best type to get?

Regarding sterilization of bottles, what is the best way to sterilize? I've seen people say they boil their bottles, wash with soap and water, put them in the dishwasher and/or spray with alcohol and let air dry. What is the best/safest way to sterilize? hmm

TIA if anyone can offer any advice, I'd greatly appreciate it! Smile

I think first it depends on what you are putting in your spritz?

I have some Blue Cobalt Glass bottles with spray heads and snap on tops I purchased at MRH, I do run most of my DIY supplies through the dishwasher in a net bag. Smile

What is MRH? Those bottles sound great!

A mesh bag is a good idea. Any idea where I could find one appropriate for the dishwasher?

I know some things can interact with aluminum, but I would get the lined kind if I were to get aluminum. The spritz I think is going to have tea extracts, soy isoflavones, licorice root extract, algae extract and either sodium pca or glycerin I think. And a preservative and distilled water. To start with! (Hopefully none of those interact with each other or anything!)

I've seen some HDPE plastic bottles as well. Would you happen to know if that is appropriate material for DIY/sterilizing? Do you HAVE to boil the bottles or would the dishwasher and/or alcohol suffice? hmm

MHR= Mountain Rose Herbs

http://www.mountainroseherbs.com/

That is where I purchased some, but there are bottle suppliers listed in the Recipe Index with ingredient suppliers also!

I am a pack rat and have a few mesh bags from using for babies bottles, pacifiers ect.
I think the still sell those and also for delicate washables in the washing machine! Either would work!

ETA: If the dishwasher sterilizes well enough for an infants mouth (according to all my kids doc's it sterilizes enough for my DIY) Very Happy

Thanks DM. I already have one of those mesh bags! I didn't know if it was safe for the dishwasher or not though.

So can I also just put my shotglasses that I'll be using in the dishwasher and use them straight from the dishwasher then? No need to do extra sterilization on those either do you think?
