Hi,
I am 47 years old and lines and wrinkles are starting to show. I also have large pores and some embedded acne. My skin is a little sensitive, but I have used Retin A before but stopped because I did not notice a difference. I have a very light complexion with redness in some areas, especially cheeks.
I now want to try Obaji products. What products are essential? Do I need the entire kit?
Can I do this alone or do I need a dermatologist to guide me? I went for a consult, but the Obaji kit was $400 from the derm plus $55 for generic Retin-A.
What strength Retin-A should I use since I have not used it in over a year? Where is the safest place to order Retin-A without a prescription and is it safer to use a credit card, PayPal, or direct bank payment? |

You really should be under the care of a derm to use Nu Derm. They can look at your skin and tell you exactly what you need to use and how long. They can monitor your skin to make sure you are having a normal reaction or not, etc. IMO, the entire kit is needed especially for the first 6 weeks when you are in the "out with the old" phase.
Could you get a consult with a derm and buy the kit on line? EDS sells it, as well as other places and often at a much better price than a derms office.
If you choose to do this yourself, and many do, please take the time to research. Check out Obagi.com and this place: http://www.skincare-md.com. Read all you can and make sure you know what you are getting in to. Hope that helps! |

Yes, I did go for a consult. The price of the Obaji kit was $400 and that includes help with using the kit with a follow-up visit in 6 weeks. This still sounds really expensive to me. |

I agree, it is expensive. If you want the less expensive route, take a read at the 2 places I listed. I will say that Obagi is the best thing I have ever used and the only thing that has worked on my skin and made a visible difference. |

I don't think you need a dermatologist to guide you. If you are on a budget just buy Retin A and Blender. This will help you with the wrinkles.
You can get Retin A (in cream form) without prescription at the AllDayChemist.com. I'm not sure about the %, if you are new, start with the lowest, which is 0.025, I think. |

$400 is too expensive, i think you can go to obagi website or go some forum like EDS to study. Also i have not enquiried doctor too. I think it s better to match with A retin FROM 0.05% if your skin is not so sensitive. |

I have to agree with RussianSunshine, I have very normal non-reactive skin and not on Obagi. I will be ordering my first Retin A this week and on Riley's recommendation I will buy the 0.025 to start and work up! No matter your skin toughness you never know how it will respond to Retin A, so slow and steady is the safest route. |

I started with the .025 about a week after my friend did. I have now moved up to the .05 but she is having so much trouble adapting to the retin a that she is only using the .025 every other night. So, I agree, start with the lowest dose to see how you skin reacts. You can always move up and can use the lower strength on alternating nights, your hands, arms, chest, whatever. |

I got started on Obagi by a plastic surgeon. I think the Obagi routine is pretty basic. The facial cleaner, toner, vitamin c serum, clear, exfoderm and blender. The bottles are marked which ones are a.m. and p.m. |

How long did it take you to work up to .05 strength?
I am trying to decide how many tubes of each strength of Retin-A I need to order. I want to order several tubes since shipping at alldaychemist is so $$$$. |

From your age and symptoms, I would reccomend a common-sense tweek to your daily diet(if you haven't already), such as more live antioxidants(yes, live).
Try incorporating some raw , live foods including but not limited to kale, greean juices and even raw cacao added to foods you already eat.
These tweeks will actually help prime your body---and SKIN--to be more receptive to the products you'll be using.
Yes, retinol is the timed and true go-to, however(as would be told to you by an Obaji practitioner at the clinic), that in itself is not sufficient.
Obaji has a relatively new line: ZO that works wonders for mature skin.
You can combine the foaming cleanser, which is gentle enough if you have dry skin. Whether you wear make up or not, you MUST wash every day, so that the retinol can really get in there, absorb and do its job.
Follow with the ZO scrub, which is great as a mini dermabrasion at home.
Same routine in the p.m., but follow with equal parts retinol and blender.
These products cost a lot, but are more than worth it. And those are just the basics.
However, you've already saved about 400.00 dollars by not attending a consult with the good doctor. |
