Hi all
My skin used to look moist and quite young for my late thirties. But - I thought - I must jazz things up to keep my skin in tip top conditioner. I added skinceuticals 0.5 at night and have also started using the clarisonic. I started slowly with the retinol building up to every night in the last week. Though I've managed to avoid peeling, I look DREADFUL! About five years older at least with my skin looking so dry even though I add moosturiser half an hour after the retinol. Help! Is it worth persevering? Surely dry skin looks older! |

You might just be overdoing it a bit, it sounds like you have stripped the stratum corneum or very top protective layer of your skin. I would stop using both the retin a and the clarisonic for a week or two then you can start back slowly perhaps 3 nights a week, and use the clarisonic only a couple of times a week for a deep clean, sometimes when using retin a a gel exfoliant is better, I have been using olay regenerist a couple of nights a week instead of my retin a gel and it seems to help with the flakes but isn't too harsh. I have the clarisonic myself and it's great but if your using retin a it needs to be used conservatively. I am speaking from experiance as I have done exactly as you have done before, several times in fact and I've been on retin a for years now.
Also as I said on the other thread having a really good skin healing cream on stand by is a must I like Bepanthen which is cheap as chips here in the UK but Biafine is also good and I hear many people saying good things about Cereve which has ceramides in and helps rebuild the skins barrier function.
Retin A use is tricky, a fine balancing act between stripping back and renourishing the skin. |

Hi Jaywa What is happening is that old skin are surfacing and will eventually be replaced by new skin. I suggest you cut your dosage into half, say 3x a week till your skin adjust to the cream.
Just remember! "No pain, no gain" ....
Don't forget to use sunscreen of at least 30 SPF (very important!).... |
