I'm 41 years old and always had great skin. No acne, no scars, very youthful "dewy" complexion. But I had a few sun spots and as I've gotten older noticed that I'm experiencing aging symptoms (fine lines, etc..). Because of that, I decided to try Obagi Nu Derm for dry skin.
The first 5 weeks or so were fine - some peeling, some redness, but manageable. I'm now in week 7 and my skin is AWFUL. I look like I'm 80 years old. I'm peeling, but not terribly... more so just incredibly wrinkled. I actually look like one of those aging apps on your iphone, but it's real!! And really scary.
I'm following the regimen methodically. And I do keep reading that you have to stick with it, but I'd love to hear from ANYONE with similar issues. This is scaring me, and worries me that I've ruined my great skin!!
By the way - the one thing that has worked is that my spots are GONE! That, I love... HELP, PLEASE!! |

Welcome SDS716!
Obagi NuDerm is probably the harshest on dry skin. I have very dry skin and was incredibly wrinkled and my skin cracked and peeled for months. I took alot of pictures of the wrinkling, it was unbelievable a product could make my skin so ugly so fast.
Before NuDerm I had nice skin but with melasma and a little bit of sagging. Now, six months later, I still have some residual melasma that came back once I went on maintenance but is MUCH lighter than before. My skin quality has gone from good to great.
A skin cycle is 6 to 8 weeks so you are probably wrinkling and drying up before some major peeling.
I must say that my skin was beet red, painfully dry and peeling the entire time on NuDerm (24 weeks). But the results were worth it. I don't know if I would have been as aggressive if I had to work in an office though - my face was so unsightly at times.
I just started my first 2 weeks on NuDerm again to "shock" the skin, as recommended on the ZO Skin Health blog. Within one day I already turned red and started lightly peeling and, yep, the wrinkles are back! |

Welcome to this forum, SDS716 It is "normal" to be wrinkly on Obagi Nu-derm before it gets better. I had the same reaction too when I first started with this and was shocked... However, applying too much can also cause this, so I would suggest that you cut your application in half, since your spots are already gone... And, don't forget to use sunscreen to avoid further damage.... |

Use a tiny bit of a moisturizer. I know Obagi discourages using a moisturizer, but it will make the process less distressing. |
