| Every person is different and that is why they have so many bcp out there. It's pretty much trial and error which one would be best for you. I took diane35 because its supposed to help with acne.... Instead it made mine 10x worse. I took allesse and I gained weight plus my acne got much worse. My friend is on Allesse and lost weight plus her skin improved. |

| Nope, don't take the pill. We don't need more estrogen which is clearly linked to cancer, our bodies already have a lot. Suzanne Somers says the bcp caused her breast cancer. |

A systematic review in 2010 did not support an increased cancer risk in users of combined oral contraceptive pill.[42]
COC decrease the risk of ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer,[20] and colorectal cancer.[1][43]
The use of oral contraceptives (birth control pills) for five years or more decreases the risk of ovarian cancer in later life by 50%.[43] Combined oral contraceptive use reduces the risk of ovarian cancer by 40% and the risk of endometrial cancer by 50% compared to never users. The risk reduction increases with duration of use, with an 80% reduction in risk for both ovarian and endometrial cancer with use for more than 10 years. The risk reduction for both ovarian and endometrial cancer persists for at least 20 years.[20]
Taking oral contraceptives also reduces the risk of colorectal cancer.[29] However, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) stated in 2005 that COC increase the risk of cancers of the breast (among current and recent users),[1] cervix and liver (among populations at low risk of hepatitis B virus infection).[1][44]
Research into the relationship between breast cancer risk and hormonal contraception is complex and seemingly contradictory.[45] A large 1996 collaborative reanalysis of individual data on over 150,000 women in 54 studies of breast cancer found that: "The results provide strong evidence for two main conclusions. First, while women are taking combined oral contraceptives and in the 10 years after stopping there is a small increase in the relative risk of having breast cancer diagnosed. Second, there is no significant excess risk of having breast cancer diagnosed 10 or more years after stopping use. The cancers diagnosed in women who had used combined oral contraceptives were less advanced clinically than those diagnosed in women who had never used these contraceptives."[2] These data suggest that oral contraceptives have little effect on breast cancer development, or that women who seek gynecologic care to obtain contraceptives have more early breast cancers detected through screening.[46][47] |

| Estrogen has conclusively been linked to cancer. That the birth control pill still gets a free pass hardly matters. |

+1000 points, everyone's body is different and reacts to pills different. What works for someone else may not work for you, ad vice versa. Its trial and error unfortunately.
Alesse made me depressed and PMS hardcore, Yaz made my breasts lumpy and painful, Diane35 made my breasts even more painful, Nuvaring killed my sexdrive. I've been taking Loestrin for several months now, so far so good. Now of these pills helped my acne or worsened it either. Most of friends are either Alesse, Ortho Ticylcen low, or Nuvaring, and it works for them. Everyone is different!
And I question the link between estrogen and cancer. Taking the pill definitly decreases the chances of many cancers like ovarian and endometrial cancer. I've never heard of it increasing the chance of other cancers. Then again, what DOESN"T increase cancer? The danger of BC is more heart related, this is why you shouldn't smoke when you take the pill. Personally, I hate taking a pill everyday, but I have advanced endometrioisis and just had surgery to remove large cysts from my ovaries, and BC pills are pretty much the only option I have to reduce my risk of worsening the disease. |

| It's a trial-and-error when it comes to the pill, unfortunately. Most women will try about 3 or 4 different ones before they find one that they like! Personally Yasmin is my favourite, I have no negative side effects whatsoever from it. I'd recommend making an appointment to sit down and discuss the best options for you with your doc/gyno, and go from there. Everyone is different so you won't know how your body will react until you try it! And for many women too the pill (no matter what brand) gives them such bad effects they can't take it...in that case an alternative BC method, such as an IUD, is a good option. |

| I've tried them all I swear.. I eventually gave up because my libido would be nonexistant to the point where my relationship would suffer. I'll take my chances. |

Since the age of 13 i've been battling acne. I went to a dermatologist at age 15 and they prescribed me birth control pills. I've been taking birth control pills for more than a decade and have went off birth control pills about a year ago. If i knew what i know now, i would have NEVER went on the pill in the first place. I'm mad at the whole pharmaceutical companies for pushing birth control pills every chance they get. It has become a "cure" from anything from acne to menstral cramps to birth control. As a normal citizen, you trust your doctors to write you a prescription for your symptoms. But the doctors now a days are just as brain washed from the pharmaceutical companies as the doctors in the 1940's were brain washed from the cigarette companies to prescribe cigarettes to everyone.
As i've been off of birth control pills, i've noticed my hormones have really been out of wack. From clear skin several months ago, to crazy break outs now. I've seeked out a naturopath for their expert opinions. Naturopaths view birth control pills as very dangerous and should not be taken for more than 10 years. My naturopath says that the amount of estrogen in birth control pills is in such high concentrations that is not normal to have that in your system. She has seen a huge amount of women who find it tough to get pregnant due to being on birth control pills for so long. My naturopath worries that I may have complications getting pregnant as well due to the effects of BC pills in the long run. When you do think about it, it doesn't seem "right" to be playing with your hormones the way BC pills does |
