Welcome to this forum, michelle1234 What are the ingredients of your DIY vitamin C Serum that you made? What else, aside from DIY Vitamin C Serum, are you using (creams or gadgets)? Do you use sunscreen, at what SPF? |

even my friends have said that DIY Vit C actually darkens the skin , dunno why so i have stopped it from today ! inputs pls |

Hi and welcome!
Is your skin darker or is it red? 15% LAA can be irritating, especially if this is your first time using LAA. |

Hi Michelle,
I'm sorry you're not obtaining the results you had hoped to achieve, but rather your skin is appearing darker in color. In order to better under your experience I need a little more information but first, here is what you've shared 1) a DIY Vit C serum with 15 % concentration 2) basically only Vit C in the night , using L ascorbic cosmetic powder (Lotion crafter ) I am familiar with Lotioncrafter and I need to know how you are applying the L-Ascorbic Acid, USP, Ultrafine Powder to your skin at night?
You first mentioned a serum then you mention that you're using L ascorbic powder. Did you create a serum using L ascorbic acid? If you have formulated a serum, I need to know all of the ingredients. Additionally, how are you able to determine that your are using 15% concentrate? Is your entire face darker or are you experiencing area of darkness? Skin is so interesting and there are so many factors that come into play and with that being said, I need more information in order to wrap my mind around what might possibility be happening to you. |

michelle1234, you will a sunscreen higher than SPF 15, as this is not enough to protect the skin from UVA/UVB in my point of view. Say SPF 30 or more is ideal....

I've read on the boards several comments stating that using a C serum underneath a cream containing copper peptides can darken the skin. I'm using a homemade 5% C serum (1/8 tsp L-Ascorbic acid vit C, 1 1/8 tsp glycerin, 1¼ tsp water) at night once every 3-4 days, waiting half an hour and then applying Environ AVST 4. I think my skin looks a little darker. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Does the AVST contain the sort of peptides that cause this reaction? The peptides listed on the AVST are Palmitoyl Oligopeptide and Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7.
Forgive me if I'm asking a stupid question, I'm a little frazzled today...
ETA: In case you have disabled signatures, my routine is
0.05% tretinoin 3 days on, 1 day off,
AVST 4 every morning and night,
5% C serum on nights when I'm not applying tretinoin,
sunscreen, of course! |
