Anyone here using niacinamide for skin issues?
I have heard it can do miraculous things.
How do you apply it ?Do you use it in conjuction
with a moisturizer since i have heard ,when you put it on the face, the face drinks it fast so you have to keep an eye on it,so it doesnt lighten the area too much.

Thank you

Hello,

I would say that most of us here use niacinamide in one way or another - as it a pretty standard ingredient in most skin care lines.

I have used it in a very simple DIY solution (Aloe + niacinamide). I think it does good things, and I continue to use it, but nothing dramatic. You certainly do not need to "watch it" if you use it at recommended percentages.

hope that helps,
Smile

I had a bad reaction, pustules, from niacinamide. It also bothers me in oral vitamins, too. My sister has the same issues. The standard of doing a patch test is the best way to go. I hope it works for you.

ETA: I have sensitive skin and rosacea, as does my sister. I really wanted to like this in CeraVe but I had to throw out the bottle. Sad

That's so funny - I've just started using it, and actually popped onto the site to ask people about it! I'm using a very low concentration (4%) in distilled water, and spraying it onto my face with a vapouriser.

Impossible to say if it's doing anything yet, but I sprayed it onto my hands the other day, then slathered them with petroleum jelly and it seemed to make a difference. I have very delicate, dehydrated skin, and rosacea.

Looking forward to hearing more people's experiences with it.

Thanks for that link! It's very encouraging.

I've only been using for a few days, but already noticing some positive impact. The skin on my forehead was getting dry and papery thin; like tissue paper. Now it seems to have a natural layer of sebum forming on it. In fact, all of my skin looks quite dewy.

No improvement to the undereye wrinkles yet... Wink

So what the user on acne.org says,is that
you put a little amount of niacimide powder
,then you put a gentle moisturizer and you keep on checking for 30 minuts in case the niacimide is going to make white pathes on your skin.If it will make then you put extra moisturizer to prevent too much whitensess.
I wonder if you can use an oil instead f moisturizer.
Anyway,b3 seems to be good cause it promotes rapid circulation.

I used a DIY mix of glucosamine and niacinamide a couple of years ago, but for some reason thought I'd made up a Vit. C serum... I was trying out a bunch of DIY stuff at the time.
I was on holiday and a friend tried the serum -simple distilled water+glucosamine+niacinamide I had made, and I actually told her it was Vit C serum thinking that it was!!! I remember it left my skin soft and was really good around eye area... And that was the result she found, nice soft skin in the eye area.
After this reminder, I'm going to dig out the niacinamide powder I have around to make the serum again, as I had good results with it -maybe the glucosamine had something to do too.

Definitely start using niacinamide if you aren't already. Especially if it is mixed with glucosamine.

It's not the dramatic change that peels or vitamin C will give you, but it makes a difference over time. Besides that, there's plenty of research behind it and it's dirt cheap. You've got nothing to lose.

I just followed on of the DIY recipes for the G and N with the distilled water. My question is how do you apply it? I put it in a bottle with a dropper, but It is very difficult to get it on your face. Tried patting it on, should I be using a cotton ball? Thanks

For those of you who mix with glucosamine - what kind of glucosamine should I buy? There seems to be several kinds... glucosamine sulphate, glucosamine HCl...?

For skin care purposes 'N-acetyl-D-glucosamine' (NAG for short) is the preferred one. Sometimes just 'acetyl-glucosamine' or 'N-acetyl-glucosamine', it's the same. It's the form used in the studies.
I think those sulfate and hydrochloride versions are most likely intended to be used as food supplements. Can't prove it, but I think I head their effectiveness on skin is disputed.

To make your mixture easier to apply, try thickening the stuff with niacinamide in it up, plain xanthan gum or hyaluronic acid, or whatever you like to use. I mix beta glucans with niacinamide among other things so I need to use thickeners to suspend the glucans, but the nice side effect is easier and less messy application.

Not to be a downer, but the products that have niacinamide in them claim to be able to do miraculous things. Well, niacinamide alone is boring and like Chlorophyll already said it won't make an impact on skin the way L-ascorbic acid (vitamin C), retinoids or peels do (and people tend to get disappointed in those as well, unreasonable expectations and all), but long therm it does improve skin, lines and sag - not so much, but more even and brighter skin tone is realistically achievable. Helpful for hyperpigmentation issues, but is best combined with other things. For acne sufferers the effect tends to be most impressive, it can reduce breakouts considerably (that part is very true in my case), but again, I didn't use just niacinamide. I'm a multi-vector attack mode kind of person.

Ditto to everything ^ said.

If you aren't much of a home chemist and don't want to mess with thickeners, you could try adding the powders to an aloe gel. It would 'water down' the preservative system but you could just store it in the fridge to solve that.

Did you use any preservatives, btw?

Thank you for the replies. This is what I followed: " Keliu's Glucosamine & Niacinamide Serum, version B " Yes, I do keep it in the fridge. I've followed several recipes here, mainly Kassies, always with good results.
