It's been a long time since I've posted, but I've come to ask the EDS experts for some advice for my 21-year-old daughter who is suffering from forehead congestion/tiny bumps.

It's definitely a case of clogged pores, i.e. if she were to extract, something would definitely come out. But she has very sensitive skin, and extracting (even if done "correctly") almost always creates a worse problem.

A little background... She'd always had pretty good skin, but her problems started last year probably due to a combination of an extreme vegan diet exacerbated by skin-picking and trying too many different products.

A change in diet, antibiotics and acupuncture for hormonal balance have pretty much cleared everything up - except for the forehead congestion.

Her skin problems were quite traumatic for her, and so she's understandably loathe to try things that could make her (sensitive) skin worse.

She's just ordered a clarisonic and, from what I remember reading on EDS, this seems like a good move.

She's also tempted to try aspirin mask (though I worry that might be too harsh on her skin).

Her skin is clearly sensitive (she once used a bit of my Retin-A around her chin for a week, and it took nearly a month for the redness to disappear).

I think the OCM could also cause problems.

I've tried to provide as much information as possible... wondering if anyone might have any suggestions on how she might go about clearing this forehead congestion? Would be ever so grateful.

TIA, and I hope everyone is doing well! Smile

Does she use hairspray or other hair products that might get on her forehead? That happens to me. When I use volumizing spray and hairspray, I take a piece of paper and cover my forehead before spraying. Either that or take a damp washcloth and wipe off my forehead.

Hi SoftSkin. No, she doesn't use hairspray.

But she has tended to use natural products on her face for the last year or so, and I suspect she might benefit from a deeper clean. Hopefully the Clarisonic will help.

I'll be searching the EDS forums for advice on using the Clarisonic - I do seem to remember some members having issues with it!

I am prone to forehead congestion too - I find an exfoliating toner helps (the Nip+Fab glycolic acid pads are good), and also drinking a glass of warm lemon water or ACV+water first thing in the morning on an empty stomach usually clears them up for me.

I'm also pretty religious about using a non-foaming cleanser -- I use a cleansing milk or a cleansing cream with a washcloth only in the evenings and just rinse my skin off in the mornings.

My skin isn't sensitive but asperin masks seemed too harsh for me, so at least don't let her leave it on too long.

I'm also surprised you'd try the clarisonic, but I guess manual exfoliation doesn't bother her? I suppose you'd need to be careful about which product to use with it. You could also just try a soft wipe with a warm, wet micro-fibre cloth after cleansing with whatever you already know doesn't aggravate her. I found those to be very effective when used gently.

I suspect that besides a little exfoliation to clear the congestion, that an acv/water toner to bring back p/h balance would be most helpful.

Witch hazel is a gentle, natural toner and cheap at your local CVS or Rite Aid. I keep some in a little bottle at my desk and wipe my oily forehead midday usually.

Also if its congestion, I'm wondering whether she might beneft from doing a massage on her face - to clear any congested areas. Like Tanaka massage maybe with oil. That may benefit her too.
