I know ive written in before, and you might be tired of me bothering you...but things are still bothering me, hehe..
So i have been trying the vit C serum that was recommended to me for these red spots that wont go away. And i use witch hazel sometimes, and Retin-A at night. Besides that all i do is wash with water, but my skin is still bad, and im breaking out. I dont know what else to do, or if im doing something wrong. I just never learned basic stuff i guess. im feeling hopeless and stupid!

Ethan
You are not bothering anyone. you are not stupid . I knew next to nothing about real skin care before I found this site.
Don't be disheartened and carry on with the vit c, it is good for your skin.
I have started using the Obagi regime it is supposed to even out skin tone etc but it is a bit radical and you go through a bad stage before the good. I don't know if this will be helpful to you or not. There are lots of fantstic products and I am sure someone will recommend some for you.
It is a matter of trial and error trying to find what works for you. If it was easy there would not be half as many different subjects posted on this forum.
Just don't give up it is an ongoing battle. |

Hi Ethan .
OK, it will be a long post, but hope it helps you out. But firstly, can you tell us a bit more about your 'skin history', stuff like how long have you had your skin concern, what products have you used in the past etc...
But, in the meantime, I hope I can help you out with the some info..The following can all affect skin:
-what goes on our skin (topical lotions, potions etc...)
-what's going on underneath out skin can be affected by several factors such as the amount of sebum we produce (influenced by hormones)
-individual factors such as stress and general lifestyle (the nutrients we feed our body)
-genetic factors...if someone in your family also has a tendency to break out.
There are many 'controlling' factors when it comes to spots. These can involve a good skincare regime. But if your skin is concerning you and you have a persistant worry about it, I think going to your doctor is a good idea. If the doctors think it's appropriate they may consider anti-biotics (in topical or tablet form), or the pill (for females) to control the spots.
The only medication (that I know of anyway) that aims to wipe out acne instead of just controlling it is roaccutane. This is a controversial medication, as many adverse side-effects are associated with its use from joint pains to depression. Dermatologists prescribe this as a 'last resort' and there are screening tests required before the patient can start the medication.
Anyway......I'll finally get to the point, with the above in mind, tell me what your skin type is like and more info and will try to figure out which products may be of use.
Sorry for the long post! |

Ethan, if you are only washing with water, maybe you should introduce a skin wash specially formulated for your skin type. Follow this link http://www.essentialdayspa.com/dermalogica-anti-bac-skin-p_1475.htm If you can control the oil and bacteria on the skin surface, your half way there. If the vitamin C isnt working right now, store it out of sunlight for a few weeks while you wash with this or any other wash that will help to normalise your skin, and re introduce the vitamin c in a month or so and see what happens then. |

Thanks everyone for the replies.
I eat well and get sleep and control stress. Im 20 and my skin doesnt look very good, so im thinking its hormonal. I am latent in other areas too...like growth, etc.
Ive been using Retin A for about 8 months, and it has worked the best out of things ive tried. I am getting breakouts now though, and the red marks (from previous acne?) havent gone away for many months. so im worried. |

Ethan, It might be time to give your doctor and visit and see if he can prescribe something for you and maybe get to the bottom of the cause...... |
