Why use a rake/mop/hose when a powerwasher/leafblower/other obnoxious thing will do? These are men who work out and seemingly have enough upper body strength to wield a mop or other Luddite implement in a manly way. So why?
I thought the car was the extension of the peen but now I think its powertools. 
Have you ever used one (powertool)? I have! they're fun, but too noisy and not ecological for me. |

Sadly, blowers and similar noisy implements frequently do a better job. I can't use a broom or rake, for example, to get leaves out of a couple corners in my patio. A blower is the only thing that does it right. Even a water hose isn't right because the a/c unit is right in this one corner...not to mention the waste of water.
Also, blowers do it faster. You can herd a enormous number of leaves in one direction very quickly with a blower...it would take probably three or more times as long to do it with a rake. You still have to finish off with a rake and your back, but you can get the leaves in the general area that make them easy to rake & bag much more quickly with a blower.
I agree they're overused and I HATE the noise (never put my hearing aids in on yard people mornings ) but sometimes they really are best.
Plus, funny faces and funny stomachs when you point the blower at a person. 
I'm sure the men in our lives wonder the same thing about, say, Clarisonics, etc: "Why do women have to use a motorized brush to wash their faces? What's wrong with just a washcloth?"  |

| We live in an apartment now because I recently decided to go back to school. But when we had a yard to tend to, I tried to use manual tools whenever possible. A rake, a weed eater and a lawn mower were pretty much all that was needed. For the garden I borrowed my aunt's tiller and everything else was just elbow grease. |
